Description : Gateway Classic Cars of Dallas is excited to present the rarest car we have ever hosted. a 1967 Ghia 1500 GT. Carrozzeria Ghia is famous for their custom work on other models of cars however, Ghia built a few models of their own in the 1960s. This extraordinary Ghia 1500 GT is one of very few of these rare cars.

Only 846 were built between 1963 and 1967. Only 35 were officially exported to the USA. Almost none remain in any condition. This is an exceptional example, perhaps one of the finest in the world.

The 1500 GT was powered by a Fiat 1.5-liter straight-four with horsepower ratings ranging from 67 to 84. The top speed was over 100 mph. The suspension consists of an independent front end with coil springs and a live rear axle with leaf springs.

The former owner replaced the Fiat 1500 motor with a fresh 118 horsepower 2 Litre Volvo motor with dual SU carburetors. When he performed the complete restoration, the body and frame were blasted, epoxy primed and painted Rosso Corsa by a top-quality paint shop in Bellingham, WA. The replacement motor weighs considerably less than the original motor and produces nearly 30 more horsepower.

The Borrani wheels have been powder coated and new tires were fitted. The headliner, seats, and carpet are all fully restored. A superb and fast car, the extra 40-60hp makes it an exciting drive. Full documentation of restoration accompanies this rare, unusual, and uncompromising car.

Compare it to the much more common and much more expensive Alfa Romeo Sprint Specials. It is a veritable bargain at only 25% of the pricing.

Only 846 Built: Estimated only 35 Sold in the United States This GT, which in 1963 began a limited production run that would last five years, offered a very different take on 1500 than did its Fiat-badged Pininfarina Coupe counterpart. The Ghia stylists working under chief Sergio Sartorelli gave the 1500 GT pure two-seat sports car looks courtesy of a long, sloping hood line and dashing fastback profile that terminated in a neat Kamm tail. Special detailing abounded in delightfully shaped front fender vents, hidden door handles, and a slender rear bumper that perfectly shapes the rear panel and its simple round taillamps. Carrozzeria Ghia's smaller size limited its ability to mass-produce the 100-mph capable 1500 GT, and according to company records, just 846 were built, with around 35 being sold new in America by a Detroit, Michigan, company called Krim Car Imports.

About Fiat
Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino (FIAT to you and I) was founded by Giovanni Agnelli in 1899. Their first car 3 ½ CV had a strong resembledence to contemporary Benz, only 25 examples were built. By 1910 Fiat had established itself as Italia's biggest car manufacturer and expanded to the US, where a new plant was built in Poughkeepsie, NY.

At that time Fiat cars were big and luxurious barges for the wealthy or barking mad racing cars like S76 , The beast of Turin, with its 290HP 28.5-liter, four-cylinder engine.

However, today Fiat is better reknown for its small symphatic peoples carriers, Topolino, 500 "Cinquecento" and 600.

What ever your favorite Fiat is, you'll find it for sale here at www.classicdigest.com
