Vignale’s Gamine is a small rear-engined car produced by Carrozzeria Vignale from 1967 to 1971, based on the Fiat 500, also known as Nuova 500. Unlike the 500, however, the Gamine had an open-top Roadster structure and only two seats. Styling was by Alfredo Vignale. The Gamine is sometimes related in design to the Fiat 508 Balila.
It was powered by a 2-cylinder, air-cooled engine of 499.5 cc from the Fiat 500 sport, the sporty version of the 500, and an engine later to be offered on the 500F. There was only one engine version producing 21BHP, a top speed of 60 mph was claimed.
Frixos Demetriou was a successful casino owner in Cyprus and the owner of the Olympic gaming club in London. While in Milan by chance, his flight to Athens was diverted, he spotted an unusual looking car by the airport and on inquiry discovered that it was a Fiat Gamine Vignale.
Demetriou was looking to diversify his business interests and sensing an opportunity he returned via Turin, securing the rights to sell Vignale’s products in the UK. He bought 200 cars up front paying with cash and committed to buy the next 6 months production if Vignale manufactured the car in right hand drive form. The Gamine two-seater was well received, becoming trendy with the Chelsea set, even night-club owner Peter Stringfellow had one.
This Fiat is one of only 200 right hand drives examples produced, and has been under the same ownership since 1990. Originalled built in 1961 and registered in july 1971, GGH changed hand twice between 71-73, then resided in Tamworth for a decade. GGH was then on the move again in 84 before being bought by the current owner.

The interior is in equally as nice condition, trimmerd in black with the addition of a stereo to the drivers side. The hood works well and is un marked, there is also a pair of zip in side screens to keep you motoring in all conditions.

About Fiat
Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino (FIAT to you and I) was founded by Giovanni Agnelli in 1899. Their first car 3 ½ CV had a strong resembledence to contemporary Benz, only 25 examples were built. By 1910 Fiat had established itself as Italia's biggest car manufacturer and expanded to the US, where a new plant was built in Poughkeepsie, NY.

At that time Fiat cars were big and luxurious barges for the wealthy or barking mad racing cars like S76 , The beast of Turin, with its 290HP 28.5-liter, four-cylinder engine.

However, today Fiat is better reknown for its small symphatic peoples carriers, Topolino, 500 "Cinquecento" and 600.

What ever your favorite Fiat is, you'll find it for sale here at www.classicdigest.com
