Fiat 509 Torpedo Cabriolet 1922

General description : 1922 Fiat 510S Torpedo Cabriolet

Chassis number: 0320554
Registration number: DZ4322 (Holland.)

A very rare fiat 510S equipped with a 3.5 litre 6 cylinder engine giving ample power & decent cruising speeds.  The S moniker denotes the sports model with a higher compression 53hp engine & is differentiated from the lesser models by its V shaped radiator.

The car sports its original elegant factory torpedo coachwork with disappearing hood-frame.  To the interior is beautifully preserved & patinated walnut cabinetry along with black letaher to the seating surfaces.  The car is finished in light red with the paint being in respectable condition throughout.

The car was in a private collection for three decades where it was regularly but sparingly used.  The car did a trip to prague a few years ago which it performed with no issues.  The original non braked front axle has been replaced with one equipped with front brakes to conform to Italian roadworthyness standards.  The original axle comes with the car so it could eaily be put back to original specification rear wheel only brakes.

Singnificant other works have recently been done to the car including re-coring of the vee radiator. New Brake linings have been fitted.  The car has just been serviced with all fluids changed etc.

About Fiat
Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino (FIAT to you and I) was founded by Giovanni Agnelli in 1899. Their first car 3 ½ CV had a strong resembledence to contemporary Benz, only 25 examples were built. By 1910 Fiat had established itself as Italia's biggest car manufacturer and expanded to the US, where a new plant was built in Poughkeepsie, NY.

At that time Fiat cars were big and luxurious barges for the wealthy or barking mad racing cars like S76 , The beast of Turin, with its 290HP 28.5-liter, four-cylinder engine.

However, today Fiat is better reknown for its small symphatic peoples carriers, Topolino, 500 "Cinquecento" and 600.

What ever your favorite Fiat is, you'll find it for sale here at www.classicdigest.com
