Ford 5-Window Coupe Coupe 351 Windsor V8 1946

General description : Description
Fat-fendered Fords don't get much cooler than this 1946 Ford Custom Coupe dressed in beautiful Atomic Orange paint. These cars offer full-sized comfort and distinctive good looks, making them some of the most popular for a full makeover like this. With a powerful Ford 351 V8 underneath, this one also drives as good as it looks and keeps Blue Oval fans happy with its pure Ford DNA.
The first thing you notice about this big, orange Ford is that all the bodywork has been smoothed and trim has been removed to really accentuate the curvaceous lines of the '46 design. The Atomic Orange paint coats the body wonderfully, and it was completed to such a high level that you'll think twice before taking it out on a cloudy day. It's not a perfect show pony though, but there are enough clues to show that some skilled metalworkers were behind the build, and the way it comes together makes other streetrods blush with envy. The effect of that aggressive stance is that the formerly clunky '46 Ford shape looks lean and sleek, with a distinctively muscular look that seems to be going fast sitting still. The '46s were essentially warmed-over '42s (WWII put a stop to new innovation for several years), but with the deleted brightwork, painted front grille, and frenched rocket-style taillights this looks like a brand new model. Running boards were gone by '46, but you can see a hint of them, and the way the body fits together, you'll spend more time looking at details than the overall presentation, because this coupe just looks awesome. The beautiful oval rear window is one of the car's best features, and it ties in neatly with the coupe set-up.
The interior is art rendered in acres of tan leatherette vinyl that looks upscale and inviting. Bucket seats from a late model form the foundation, and the rest of the sculpted interior was formed around them. Supple hides cover the artfully designed door panels, the seats, and the custom center console, and the backseat area is still big enough for three passengers. The original dash was completely filled, smoothed, and then painted to match the exterior, and the underneath Equus auxiliary dials are the only instruments keeping an eye on the motor. A 3-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel hangs on a painted tilt column, an aftermarket ratchet shifter handles the gears, and nicely stitched carpets would look just as at home in a Lexus as they do here. There's also a giant trunk that's been upholstered to match the interior and looks ready for a road trip.
A Ford 351 cubic inch V8 provides motivation, and there are few better choices for your vintage Ford than the venerable Ford Windsor small block. Clearly built to run, it features an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and matching intake, dual Flowmaster exhaust, and an Accel ignition system, all dressed up with nice details that make it sparkle. A belt drive system ensures reliability up front and there's a radiator with dual electric fans to keep the whole show nice and cool. The independent front suspension includes power steering, power front disc brakes, and a fat sway bar, while out back a GM 10-bolt rear end handles the torque. A C6 3-speed automatic transmission makes for easy cruising and unbeaten reliability, and it rolls on a set of slick 20-inch Luxx chrome wheels with low-profile rubber that looks right. Professionally built for a figure that was surely two or three times the asking price, this cool Ford will always be the center of attention. Call today!

About Ford
Ford, founded in 1902, has arguably changed the history of automotive world more than any other car manufacturer by introducing the first people's car Model T in 1908. They had produced more than 15 million cars by the end of the production in 1927, by which T had become obsolete.

Ford launched the first low priced V8 engine powered car in 1932. 1932 V8 was an instant hit with superior handling and performance to many far more expansive cars of the day. No wonder 32 V8 Ford has become such a favourite among hot rodders around the world with 32 Deuce coupe as their icon.

During the war Ford completely shut down civilian vehicle production to dedicate all its resources to the Allied war efforts (1942-45) They used to build B-24 bombers, aircraft engines, jeeps, M-4 tanks, military trucks and Bren-gun carriers and more than 30,000 super-charged Rolls Royce Merlin V-12 engines for Mosquito and Lancaster bombers as well as P-51 Mustang fighters. After the war Ford cars in the USA got bigger and flashier along with their competitors. In the 60's Ford was back in the forefront again when introducing their commercial hit Mustang in 1964. Mustang was so popular the competition had to follow Ford's example and the ponycar phenomenon took over the US. Over the years the ponies grew some muscles until the oil crisis kill finally killed them off.

In the sixties Ford rushed into international motor sports scene with a fury. After unsuccessful Ferrari takeover, when Enzo Ferrari had cut the deal off with Henry Ford II making the latter absolutely boil with fury, Ford turned to Lola in UK to produce a Ferrari beating long distance racer after. The collaboration between Ford and Lola created the mighty Ford GT40 that absolutely beat Ferrari in Le Mans 24 numerous times.

In Europe, Ford introduced some of the most epic race and rally cars of the 60's based on humble family sedans; Cortina GT, Lotus Cortina, Escort Twin Cam, and Escort 1600RS with the iconic Cosworth BDA engines.

Today classic Fords are extremely popular with enthusiasts and a great selection of classic Fords can be found for sale at www.ClassicDigest.com
