Mercedes-Benz 190SL 1957

General description : At Hilton & Moss we are delighted to have this beautiful Mercedes-Benz 190SL for sale in our showroom. First released in 1955 with production running up until 1963 the 190SL or W121 was built alongside the famous 300SL but was instead fitted with an inline four carburettor fed 1.9 litre engine and offered a more cost effective but equally stylish alternative.
This particular 190SL left the Stuttgart Mercedes factory in 1960 and was originally delivered to dry California. The car then found its way to Madrid, Spain where it lived for a number of years before the previous keeper, a long-term customer of Hilton and Moss purchased the vehicle in 2011. During its life in Madrid the car received a full restoration completed to a fair standard. The previous keeper kept the vehicle in its purchased condition for 8-years before bringing the vehicle to Hilton & Moss for a full assessment and major restoration project.
Work commenced at our state of the art workshop in August 2019 where the car was entirely stripped to a bare shell and a thorough body restoration completed removing any rust and previous damage including poor repairs from its past restoration. Throughout the restoration the finest panels and materials were used to ensure the work completed was to the very best standard ensuring authenticity throughout. Our specialist panel beaters spent in excess of 800-man hours ensuring the panels were perfectly straight with even panels gaps throughout. The car was then painted on site in our paint booth by our experienced paint and preparation team the result was a flawless finish in the cars original colour. The car is complete with in excess of 500 images from the entire process.
Upon arriving with our team the cars mechanical components were in very good condition. Prior to re-fitting the shell the running gear was cleaned up and detailed. Preventative maintenance was a must at this stage with a brake over haul completed, replacing of required rubber perishables, new fuel tank, new fuel and brake lines, new clutch, carburettor overhaul and rebuild, suspension overhaul and an electrical check over. Throughout the re-fit of the vehicle our expert technicians spent the time changing all fixings, clamps and catches for new items to ensure the car was finished to the very best standard.
The entire restoration process took just over two years with in excess of £110,000 spent bringing this car up to a beautiful standard. The result is an immaculate car that drives fantastically. Sourcing a good 190SL can be hard, many have received poor repairs and hide a gruesome story under the paintwork, you can buy this vehicle with confidence from a true Mercedes-Benz restoration specialist.
Finished in solid black with a full red leather interior this 190SL is complete with a rare and desirable ‘wrap around’ window hardtop. The car is an original matching numbers car and has a healthy history folder is documenting both restorations completed in the cars life.
