Het Italiaanse Innocenti begon in 1959 met het in licentie bouwen van de Britse Austin A40 Farina. Scooter fabrikant Lambretta wilde destijds auto's gaan produceren, zelf een geheel nieuwe auto ontwerpen was te kostbaar en zou ook teveel tijd vergen. Het ontwerp en betrouwbaarheid van de Austin bleek succesvol waarna men besloot ook een ander ontwerp van de British Motor Company in licentie te gaan bouwen, de Mini. In 1965 rolde de eerste Mini's uit de fabriek in Lambrate (MI). De Mini Cooper Mk1 werd gebouwd tot 1968. In 1967 verliet deze Mini Cooper de fabriek in Italië om door haar eerste eigenaar in Reggio Emilia gebruikt de worden. In 1992 kwam de auto naar Nederland, de eerste Nederlandse Ferrari importeur Paul F. Schouwenburg kocht de auto voor zijn vrouw Catherine. Alle correspondentie uit die tijd, en later, rondom de aanschaf en modificatie is bij de auto aanwezig. Als gepassioneerd autoliefhebber liet Schouwenburg de Mini naar Cooper S specificaties modificeren en werden veel technische verbeteringen doorgevoerd. Zo zijn er Cooper S remmen, een rally cilinderkop, rallye nokkenas, S uitlaatsysteem, aluminium quick filler benzinetank afsluiter, Aeroquip remslangen, groter diameter spruitstuk, Cooper S onderstel, etc. Dit alles uitgevoerd in 1993 door Ben van Leeuwen Minicenter waar destijds al fl. 9.000,- werd uitgegeven. Alles in een fraai dossier gedocumenteerd, origineel instructieboekje aanwezig. De carrosserie en bodem van de auto zijn roestvrij, een aanzienlijk deel van de auto is zelfs nog in de eerste lak. De Innocenti Mini kenmerkt zich o.a. door het zeer fraaie en eenvoudige dashboard met prachtige klokken opstelling. Het interieur is zeldzaam origineel, niet nieuw echter juist mooi op leeftijd geraakt. Er zijn geen vermeldenswaardige beschadigingen aan in- en exterieur. Laat u niet misleiden door het formaat van de klassieke Mini, schrijver van deze tekst is 1.96mtr. en past prima in de auto. Met de (niet al te grote) kinderen op pad is leuker dan in welke Ferrari of Porsche ook. Een perfecte stadsauto ook, wel te hopen dat u dan ook een garageplek in de stad wist te bemachtigen, dat verdient deze schoonheid toch echt wel.
