Nach dem nur 17 mal gebauten 928 S4 Clubsport, mit dem er viel Technisches teilt, das seltenste und interessanteste 928er Modell. Der GT wurde nur 1.600 mal gebaut!
Vom S4 unterscheidet er sich nicht nur durch sein Schaltgetreibe, sondern auch durch eine schäfere Nockenwelle und Motorabstimmung, die ihn drehfreudiger machte und eine andere Charakteristik gab. In Kombination mit der kürzeren Getriebeübersetzung und sportlicher abgestimmten Fahrwerk war er ein echter Sportwagen, der in den Beschleunigungswerten selbst den Nachfolger 928 GTS hnter sich lies.
