Porsche 928 1978

General description : In 1978 in Monaco, the Porsche 928 was selected as Car of the Year. With 261 points, the 928 soundly defeated the BMW 7 and the Ford Granada. The jury praised its beautiful lines, the powerful front-mounted aluminium 4.5 litre V8 engine and the weight distribution achieved by the use of a transaxle. This was the beginning of the success story of this iconic car, which became the top model of the Porsche model range of the day. By now well-preserved 928s have become rare and very hard to find. The example we have on offer was supplied in Belgium in February 1978 and is one of the first 928s ever supplied. The added options are well thought of: air conditioning, tinted windows, original car radio, phone dial wheels, automatic transmission, cruise control and, of course, the iconic Pasha interior. The marvellous, comfortable seats are totally vintage and the entire interior is still as new. Until recently, this 928 remained in the family of the first owner. The Porsche was cherished. It was resprayed some years ago and maintained in its original state, but not much driving was done anymore. Obviously, this car comes with the original tool kit with compressor, all original vehicle documents, up-to-date maintenance booklet, manuals and invoices. The current mileage is 80,000 km which is very low and a rare find. As the car was little used in the past few years, and to ensure that the new owner will be completely satisfied, all important parts of the car was recently checked and a major service was carried out. Of course, the corresponding bills totalling over 5,000 euros have been preserved. A total of 17,669 Porsche 928s were produced. As well-preserved examples are getting rarer by the day, this classic car is truly a car for collectors. Why don’t you join us on a tour back in time and just enjoy this original video.

About Porsche 928
he Porsche 928 was a grand tourer sports car introduced by Porsche in 1977. While the car was highly regarded for its performance and handling, it's fair to say that it was not the right car for the time of its launch, at least in terms of market demand.

At the time of the 928's launch, there was a growing demand for smaller, more fuel-efficient cars due to the oil crisis of the 1970s. The 928 was a large, V8-powered sports car that was not particularly fuel-efficient, and its high price tag made it less accessible to many buyers.

Furthermore, the 928 was also a departure from Porsche's traditional sports car design, featuring a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout instead of the classic rear-engine layout of the iconic 911. While the 928 was highly regarded for its performance and handling, some enthusiasts felt that it didn't quite capture the essence of a true Porsche sports car.

Despite these challenges, the Porsche 928 managed to gain a loyal following over the years, thanks to its combination of performance, handling, and luxury features. The car underwent a number of updates and revisions over its production run, and it remained in production until 1995.

Overall, while the Porsche 928 may have been the wrong car for the time of its launch in terms of market demand, it remains an important part of Porsche's history and a classic example of the brand's commitment to pushing the boundaries of automotive design and engineering.
