Triumph TR4 1963

General description : CALL FOR FURTHER DETAILS AT 540-949-8764. MON-THURS 8:00A-6:00P EASTERN TIME, PLEASE! In 1962 Triumph introduced their new TR4. It contained almost every element that the TR3B had but with a few exceptions including a 2” wider chassis, new rack and pinion steering, and a completely redesigned Michelotti body. This car was an instant hit, as the addition of roll up windows and other creature comforts made the car more usable and more enjoyable. The addition of 86mm pistons, which were adopted in the last years of the TR3 in the B configuration, also increased the power and torque making it a very usable car. The TR4 had minimal factory options and the car that we are very pleased to offer included the three major ones: leather interior, factory Surrey top, factory overdrive. Overdrive was used in second, third, and fourth gears so unlike a 5 speed you had the ability to split gears as necessary, so when third gear was too low and fourth gear was too high, you could flip the overdrive on in third and be right in the middle. Surrey tops and overdrives are very expensive today to add to the car, with many used in need of restoration Surrey tops bringing $3,000-$5,000. The car we are offering was subject to a complete frame-off rotisserie restoration, With matching numbers and still retaining its factory Surrey and overdrive. it is finished in red with a black interior and comes complete with leather interior, as well as its Heritage Certificate. The car has been thoroughly sorted and is finished in a base/clear show quality paint job over a beautifully prepared body with nice lines and gaps, a fully detailed engine bay and trunk. The interior is exceptionally nice and fresh, car starts immediately with 75 pounds of oil pressure, runs at a temperature dead in the middle of the gauge, the clutch engages smoothly, and the transmission shifts smoothly as well, O/D engages immediately, all gauges and lights work as they should as well as everything electrical, and the car is very consistently restored meaning the chrome, the paint, and interior are all of the same quality. AS the pictures show, the bottom of the car is exceptionally nice and has not had undercoating sprayed, so you can see what is really there. Even the wheel wells are beautifully finished in the same red. The frame was subject to a complete sandblast and re-spray and all suspension, brakes, steering, etc. were not only rebuilt but detailed to the same quality. This is a very sorted, ready to go, rare Triumph that will be an absolute joy to own and drive. Please visit our website http://www.GassmanAutomotive.com for more details. VADLR #0727

About Triumph
Triumph, a name synonymous with classic sports cars and innovative designs, has a rich and storied history in the automotive world.

The Triumph story began in the late 19th century when the company originally produced bicycles and then expanded into motorcycles. However, it was in the 1920s that Triumph ventured into the production of automobiles. Over the years, Triumph became renowned for its high-quality vehicles that combined performance with style.

One of Triumph's most iconic models was the TR3, introduced in the late 1950s. It was a classic British sports car, loved for its simple yet elegant design and thrilling driving experience. The TR3 was a symbol of affordable sports car enjoyment, and it set the stage for a series of successful TR models, including the TR4, TR5, and TR6.

In addition to sports cars, Triumph made a name for itself with Michelotti-designed sedans. The Triumph Herald, introduced in the early 1960s, was a compact family car that boasted stylish design and solid engineering. Later on, the Triumph 2000 and 2500 sedans catered to a more upscale market and earned a reputation for their comfortable rides and elegant looks.

However, despite its successes, Triumph faced numerous challenges over the years, including financial difficulties and ownership changes. In the 1980s, British Leyland, the company that owned Triumph, underwent significant restructuring, and the Triumph brand was gradually phased out.

The demise of Triumph was indeed sad and, to some extent, disgraceful. The company that had produced beloved sports cars and well-regarded sedans was slowly fading away. In 1984, the last Triumph-badged car rolled off the production line, marking the end of an era.

Although the Triumph name disappeared, its legacy lives on. Enthusiasts and collectors continue to cherish classic Triumph sports cars like the TR3, TR6, and Spitfire, as well as the unique charm of Triumph sedans. Triumph remains a symbol of British automotive heritage and the enduring appeal of classic sports cars.

In conclusion, Triumph's history is a blend of classic sports car excellence and innovative sedan design. Its sad and disgraceful demise serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by many automakers over the years, but the spirit of Triumph lives on in the hearts of automotive enthusiasts around the world.
