Attention VW Bug fans! Just in to MotoeXotica Classic Cars is this 1967 VW Beetle Coupe that goes a little beyond standard. We our selling this bug for a friend of ours and he really spent many hours of labor restoring this car and it really shows!
Finished in Lotus White (code L282) this Bug recently arrived with a host of goodies. Its paint and trim are in very good shape, as are the glass panels, which are clear and crack-free. The car’s lights are intact, even its reverse lights in the rear bumper and it rolls on 165/80R15 rubber, surrounding Spirit of America five-spoke black alloy wheels, which contrast perfectly with the paint. The car’s body panels are straight and solid, the engine bay is tidy and the bumpers look great.
The aforementioned bag of goodies include a 1915cc VW performance flat four-cylinder engine with a laundry list of new parts €“ two-venturi, progressive EMPI carburetor, performance exhaust system, fuel pump, distributor, alternator, starter, ignition coil, clutch and throw-out bearing, clutch cable, accelerator cable, Freeway Flyer transaxle, EMPI reverse trigger, short-throw shifter, brake drums, brake shoes, wheel cylinders and hoses, tie rod ends, turn signal switch and additional oil sump.
Inside, pair of Procar bucket seats replaced the original front buckets and are upholstered in gray. They look very good. The black carpet is in good condition while the white headliner looks good. The white metal instrument panel is in very good order, as are the two-spoke steering wheel and inner door panels, mirror glass, shift lever and the attached cupholders and small-item storage area pooled around the shifter. Rounding out the interior is a Kenwood AM/FM stereo with CD player.
For 1967, stock models featured a yet-again larger-displacementengine was made available:1500cc, while the1200 and 1300 engines were available, as many markets based their taxation on engine size.1500cc Beetles were equipped with front disc brakes and were identified with a “VW 1500” badge on the engine lid. North America received the 1500 engine as standard equipment, but did not receive front disc brakes. These models were badged with “Volkswagen” on the engine lid along with slimmer exterior chrome.
The rear suspension was significantly revised, including 1350mm swing axles for a widened track, softer torsion bars and the addition of a uniqueZ-configurationequalizing torsion spring. On US models, the generator output was increased from 180 to 360watts; the voltage regulator moved from generator to under the rear seat and the entire electrical system was upgraded from six to 12 volts. A rear anti-sway bar was added. The clutch disc also increased to 200mm and there was a new 130-tooth flywheel. New equipment included a driver’s armrest on the door, recessed interior door handles and locking buttons on both doors. Safety improvements included two-speedwindshield wipers, reversing lights (in some markets) and a driver’s side mirror. In accord with new USsafety standards, North American models received a dual-circuit drum brake system, a driver’s sideview mirror became standard, the clear glassheadlampcovers were deleted; the headlamps were brought forward to the leading edge of the front fenders and the sealed-beam units were exposed and surrounded by chrome bezels.
Competition to this Beetle in 1967 included Chevrolet’s Corvair, Nissan’s 1000 and Toyota’s Corolla.

About Volkswagen
The Volkswagen story is indeed an intriguing tale of innovation, resilience, and post-war revival, marked by various models that have become iconic in automotive history.

The People's Car (Volkswagen): Initially envisioned by Adolf Hitler in the 1930s as a "people's car" or "Volkswagen" in German, the idea was to create an affordable and practical vehicle for the German people. This concept led to the development of the Volkswagen Beetle (or the Type 1), designed by Ferdinand Porsche.
Post-War Challenges: After World War II, Volkswagen faced significant challenges. The factory was heavily damaged, and the brand's association with the Nazi regime led to a lack of interest in the car in some regions.
British Intervention - The British Army & Ivan Hirst: The British Army took control of the factory in the immediate post-war period. Major Ivan Hirst, a British Army officer, played a crucial role in reviving Volkswagen. He recognized the potential of the Beetle and advocated for its production, convincing the British military to order several thousand cars. This decision helped jumpstart the brand's revival.
Export Success and the Beetle's Global Appeal: The Beetle gained popularity not only in Germany but also globally, becoming an icon of affordable motoring. Its simple, reliable design and unique appearance made it a favorite among consumers worldwide.
Model Evolution: Over the years, Volkswagen introduced various models alongside the Beetle, each contributing to the brand's growth:
Type 2 (VW Bus or Transporter): Introduced in the 1950s, it became an iconic symbol of the hippie movement in the 1960s, loved for its spaciousness and versatility.
Golf (Rabbit in the U.S.): Launched in the mid-1970s, the Golf (or Rabbit in the U.S.) marked a shift towards front-wheel-drive, modern design, and hatchback practicality, becoming a cornerstone of the brand's success.
Passat, Jetta, and Other Models: Volkswagen expanded its lineup with models like the Passat and Jetta, catering to different market segments.
Challenges and Innovations: Despite success, Volkswagen faced challenges, including quality issues in the 1970s. However, the brand continued to innovate and develop new models and technologies.
Rise of the GTI and Global Expansion: The 1980s saw the rise of the iconic Golf GTI, a high-performance version that sparked the hot hatch trend. Volkswagen also expanded its global presence during this period.
The British intervention in reviving Volkswagen after World War II played a pivotal role in the brand's resurgence. While there might have been some tensions or competition among automotive companies in the 1950s and 1960s due to Volkswagen's post-war success, the brand's ability to produce innovative and popular models solidified its place in automotive history.
