Volvo P1800 E 1971

General description : This Volvo P1800E is in exception condition. Originally it was supplied by Jim Smolich Motors of Oregon, in the United States. We imported this P1800E in 2018 and sold it to its previous owner. The Volvo always had enjoyed excellent maintenance in the States. The previous owners have always looked after this lovely Swedish coupé as the accumulated documentation shows. Apart from the inordinate amount of invoices relating to its time in the USA, the original car wallet is also still present. The Volvo’s bodywork is in very original condition, with great quality correctly aligned panels. Naturally the bodywork and chassis are completely rust-free. The car was already in a fine original condition when we supplied it to its previous owner in 2018. Since then the car has only improved. The previous owner did not stint on the cost or the effort needed to elevate this car to the next level. It has had a professional re-spray in the original “Safari Yellow” finish. That in itself was not enough to bring the car up. The decorative chrome parts, the badges and door rubbers were all replaced. The interior also interior aspect was not overlooked. The door cards, carpets, gear stick knob and window winders were replaced. We rarely see that Volvo P1800E’s attract such thorough and tender attention. A project of love shows the extent to which the owner went to achieve his desired effect. The mechanical aspects were certainly not overlooked. As the Volvo at only 84,168 miles always had been correctly serviced and maintained, the 4-cylinder 2.0 litre engine did not require a full overhaul. The cars’ mechanics have been kept in top condition due to a lot of preventative maintenance. Invoices show that a new fuel pump and 123 electronic ignition were fitted and many rubbers and gaskets as well as the spark plugs were replaced as a matter of precaution. Over the last two years the invoices amount to a total of over € 6,700. All this effort in combination with fantastic base on which it rests make this, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the finest Volvo P1800E’s on the market! About Volvo P1800
Absolutely, the Volvo P1800 is a noteworthy addition to Volvo's history, often referred to as the "Nordic Ferrari" due to its sleek design and sporty characteristics. Here's an overview of its significance within Volvo's story:

Introduction of the P1800: The Volvo P1800 was unveiled in 1961 at the Geneva Motor Show. It was Volvo's first sports car and aimed to appeal to enthusiasts seeking a blend of performance and elegance.
Styling and Design: Designed by Pelle Petterson at Italian design firm Frua, the P1800 had a stylish and curvaceous design, setting it apart from Volvo's more utilitarian models. Its long hood, graceful lines, and distinctive rear fins contributed to its captivating appearance.
Pop Culture Icon: The P1800 gained further recognition as it was featured prominently in the TV series "The Saint," where Roger Moore's character, Simon Templar, drove a white P1800. This exposure elevated the car's profile and popularity.
Evolution and Variants: The initial model was the P1800, followed by the P1800S, which featured a more powerful engine. Later, the P1800E and P1800ES (a sporty shooting-brake version) were introduced, further diversifying the lineup.
Performance and Technology: The P1800 was powered by a robust and reliable 1.8-liter inline-four engine, providing decent performance for its time. Its mechanicals were considered robust, matching Volvo's reputation for durability and safety.
Legacy and Influence: The P1800 holds a special place in Volvo's history, showcasing the brand's ability to produce a sports car that combined Scandinavian reliability with stylish design and respectable performance. Its influence can be seen in subsequent Volvo models, particularly in terms of design elements and the pursuit of sportier variants within the lineup.
The Volvo P1800 remains a beloved classic car among enthusiasts for its distinctive design, cultural significance, and being an embodiment of Volvo's foray into the sports car market, presenting a different side to the brand's typically safety-focused image.
