Chevrolet Camaro SS 396 Tribute 396 V8 1968

Allgemeine Beschreibung : Description
Around the Streetside showroom, we hear a lot of conversations, and those we hear about this 1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396 Tribute lead us to believe that it won't last long. The Cordovan Maroon paint is slick, the upgraded A/C interior is sporty and comfortable, and it's powered by a stout 402 cubic inch big block that's ready to run like a scalded dog the moment the key flicks on. With chiseled good looks and the hardware to swing on just about anybody, this is the ideal muscle car if you're looking to make a dramatic entrance, or a quick exit.
Another black SS you say? Look closer, because although it may be a dark finish, this isn't just your regular Chevy tuxedo. The color is Cordovan Maroon, a deep, dark paint color that really comes to life under our lights and out in the sunshine. The paint job was finished a few years back and although there are some signs of use and an imperfection here or there, it's still looking really good today. Not perfect, but certainly slick enough to go out on the town Friday night and show with pride anywhere. Check the crease running the length of the body, it's straight and crisp, one of your biggest tipoffs that someone went the extra mile to get this one right. Add in a factory hood with SS chrome inserts, a chin spoiler up front, a ducktail spoiler out back, and white bumble-bee stripes on the nose, and you have the quintessential F-body hot rod that almost everyone can agree looks awesome. This one also offers proper SS badging, 396 emblems on the front fenders, and lovely stainless trim, particularly along the window-sills and wheel arches. And with that stance and the fat rubber out back, it's pretty hard to miss this one going down the street.
Behind the wheel you'll find a mixture of stock Camaro gear and a couple aftermarket surprises that kick it up a notch or two. Deeply sculpted front buckets anchor the cabin and provide both great comfort and improved bolster support, and the handsome steering wheel is a modern, black-rimmed take on the original that looks exactly right here. The original gauge pods are just ahead, although they've been filled with high-end Dakota Digital units that light up the night with a flick of the key, and with their digital/analog read-outs they keep a more accurate eye on the roaring big block under the hood. Black carpets and Camaro floor mats give it a showroom fresh feel and things like the door panels and rear seat might even be original pieces. Wood grain applique on the dash and center console warm things up a bit inside, and the horseshoe 'staple' shifter that manages the TH350 automatic transmission below is a fan favorite. A modern RetroSound stereo fits in the original slot, so no dashboards were harmed in the making of this Camaro, and you'll note that this Camaro also sports R134a A/C that's fully functional and blowing cold. Check the trunk and you'll find a carpeted mat and plenty of room for all your car show goodies'.
If you're looking for streetable horsepower, look no further than the 402 cubic inch GM motor under the hood. Whether you call it a 402 or a 396 is almost a matter of preference at this point (at some point in the early '70s, Chevy even called these big block 400s to further confuse the masses, or more importantly, the insurance companies), but what you'll never call it is late for anything. With a Holley 4-barrel, Edelbrock aluminum intake, HEI ignition and a set of Hooker headers, it cranks out big horsepower and asphalt twisting torque that scares away all-comers. Yeah, it's got some pretty serious vintage blasting powder. Installed neatly inside the satin-black engine bay, it snarls and burbles on the overrun, just the way you'd expect and looks great doing it with chrome valve covers and matching air cleaner, along with the Chevy Orange block, bright red plug wires, and plenty of shiny flash around the aluminum radiator. Underneath, it's quite clean and was obviously built for combat, with a Flowmaster-style dual exhaust system with turn-downs ahead just beyond the rear axle. A more-than-capable TH350 3-speed automatic transmission and a 10-bolt out back make it a fantastic street car, and thanks to all that torque it's a brawler right off the line as well down the highway. It rides on beautiful polished Rally wheels adorned with shiny beauty rings and center caps, all of which are wearing Cooper Cobra white-letter radials in a 215/65/15 front and 255/60/15 rear configuration.
Fast and well-executed, this '68 Camaro SS tribute is a joy to drive and a legitimate threat on the street. Call today!
