Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 1969

Allgemeine Beschreibung : There's no question that survivor metal is commanding more and more respect. Nearly every major car club has a survivor category, and the prices of credible survivors continue to climb. That's an understandable trend, considering anyone can restore a car but the factory only bolts it together once. This impeccable Z/28 isn't a survivor, but it IS about as close as you can get to owning exclusive survivor muscle without the chagrin of faded aesthetics and the headache of decades old assembly. Not only is it a correct example of one of the coolest pony cars to ever leave Detroit, it's also an ultra-clean, factory-spec classic that's been meticulously maintained and restored as needed. Looking for some authentically unique muscle to bolster your collection? Here's your documented ticket to the glorious, octane-fueled past!
NEW OLD LOOK
Slotted between the legendary Corvette and the ubiquitous Chevelle, Chevrolet's first-generation of Camaro provided youthful buyers an exhilarating ownership experience thanks to heavy emphasis on motorsports and performance. As you might imagine, most of these classics have been fairly used up and, subsequently, chopped or restored over the span of ten, twenty, thirty and now almost fifty years. Not so with this panther. Thanks to a unique sequence of events and excellent stewardship, this solid and stately coupe has been carefully protected from abuse and weather alike.
Purchased new at Reedman Chevrolet in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, this clean Chevy was immediately granted the life most first-generation Camaros lead in the present: the perpetual comfort of a secured garage. That time was spent in the company of a family in Tonawanda, New York -- a well-known mecca to devout followers of the bowtie brand. And sadly, three decades of that occupation occurred after the car's primary owner had passed away. That might explain why, just after the turn of the century, owner number two located the car as a well-kept time capsule that, according to its odometer, had rolled just over 30K miles in just over 30 years. In November of 2005, the Camaro's current owner brought it to North Carolina where, throughout the next few years, it rose to prominence in the Charlotte show scene. And in 2009, this Chevy was subjected to a one-year, body-off restoration that was performed by the pros at the Queen City's own Little Rock Auto Sales. Naturally that meticulous freshening was carefully planned to mimic factory build techniques, and the builders utilized as many original and NOS components as possible.
Stretching shine over solid steel that's totally original with the exception of one quarter, which was repaired early in the car's life, this Camaro's correct Olympic Gold paint is a dynamic nod to retro style. At the front of that pigment, an NOS Endura Bumper guards a stylish Rally Sport grille that's finished with a correct 'Z/28' emblem and original Rally Sport headlight washers. Behind that grille, a Camaro-branded header leads Tuxedo Black Rally stripes, which trace an atypical 'flat hood'. Satin wipers clear a 1973 windshield that proudly displays the car's final New York inspection stickers: pieces from 1974 and 1975. That glass fronts a crisp greenhouse, which floats original stainless trim between a polished mirror and a correct vinyl top. A 'RALLY SPORT' branded profile floats correct 'Z/28' emblems between small markers, traditional door handles, ornate quarter louvers and bright rocker guards that shade correctly sprayed rocker panels. And at the back of the car, a Camaro-branded decklid shades polished exhaust, a guarded bumper and familiar Rally Sport taillights that include original reverse lamps.
NEW OLD POWER
In keeping with tradition, this awesome Z/28 is powered by 302 cubic inches of raucous Chevrolet small block. A polished and correctly decaled air cleaner funnels wind into a date-correct carburetor that was restored by vintage Holley expert Eric Jackson. That carb rides a hot Winters intake that's framed by requisite Double Hump cylinder heads, which wear finned and polished valve covers. A rebuilt warranty service distributor sequences sparks through quality Packard TV R Suppression Cables. Spent gases fall through cast GM manifolds, which work well with correct smog equipment. A pliable V-belt spins a date-correct alternator. Cooling comes courtesy of an original radiator. Ancillaries are as factory as they come, with an original wiper motor and original vacuum lines complementing an original brake booster and an original master cylinder. And the entire engine bay is clean, attractive and ready to roll, from its Chevy Orange block and Satin Black fenders to its correctly blended cowl, original firewall stamps and untouched Cowl Tag!
AS IT WERE
Bottom-side, a cleaned and restored subframe supports original floor and trunk pans that have been correctly dusted with both Olympic Gold and Tuxedo Black paint. The stout small block spins a correct Muncie 4-speed which, like that engine, has been fully freshened. That transmission twists a correct 12-bolt axle, which packs correct 4.10 gears. That rear end pushes a factory-spec suspension, which is fitted with original leaf springs that have been carefully reconditioned and re-arched. Exhaust travels through aluminized pipes, which prop a familiar transverse muffler in front of polished stainless tips. Turns come courtesy of an original steering box, which toggles an original Pitman arm. Power-assisted stops are provided by original calipers, an original proportioning valve and correct drums. And everything rolls on E70-15 Goodyear Wide Tread GTs and fully dressed Rally Wheels, three of which are original YH units.
SETTING THE STANDARD
The Standard Black Interior hiding behind this Camaro's Olympic Gold doors is a stylish factory affair that, with the exception of its package tray, is still original equipment. Tall bucket seats frame a wood-trimmed console that's finished with four-pack accessory gauges and an original Hurst shifter. In front of that island, a wood-trimmed dash hangs stainless-trimmed foot pedals below crisp factory telemetry and a Delco AM radio. That seat, dash and console trifecta is completely framed by a tight headliner, fade-free side panels and clean carpet that's protected by bowtie-branded floor mats. The driver spins an old school Rally Sport steering wheel. And behind the passengers, a clean trunk hides a fifth Goodyear tire under original decklid paint.
Who doesn't want a highly documented first-generation Camaro that's steeped in retro glory? This exclusive Z/28 retains authentic muscle car feel while adding acute restoration to an already awesome ownership experience. In the market for an impressive classic that's cool, clean and ready to rock and roll? Welcome to the Chevrolet family!
