Description : Gateway Classic Cars Houston Showroom this gorgeous Dover White 1969 Chevrolet Camaro. Based on the legendary Gen 1 Camaro platform, this car bears a great deal of resemblance to what it left the manufacturing line as, cosmetically; but below the skin is one brawling beast. This Camaro almost has "sleeper" written on it, but there are a few visual cues that it's not: the battery cutoff switch on the rear, the Corbeau racing seats with the RJS 5-point harnesses, the nicely integrated roll cage, and the custom cowl hood give hints to its intentions...At the start of the build, some metal work was necessary to eliminate some dented panels and rusted areas. The restoration photo book and 2-inch-thick receipts folder (included with purchase) shows just how much was done to get this '69 looking this nice. The body panels were disassembled, sand blasted to bare metal, and evaluated for "keep or pitch" status. Consequently, Danny Minter at South Texas Muscle & Classics ended up installing a new grill and headlight kit, new quarter panels, new front fenders, new door skins, new bumpers, new tail panel (and lights), a completely new floor pan, and new trunk pan. All metal was skillfully welded in, finished for priming, and then primed with epoxy primer on all bare metal prior to painting. Sound deadener was used throughout the car, a completely new OEM wiring harness was installed, and it was finished in that classic Dover White with Hugger Orange stripes schema. The stripes have been nicely covered with clearcoat, resulting in a smooth finish. Under the hood is a potent 427 CID V8 (GM ZZ427 crate) engine. The big block is backed by a performance-built GM TH400 3-speed automatic, equipped with a manual valve body...one doesn't stick this thing in "drive" and putter along: when starging from a dead stop, start in first gear (always), and then enjoy banging that B&M ratchet shifter up the ladder as you accelerate! The ratchet shifter is custom fit to the '69 RS console, so it looks just right. The big 427 is kept cool by a massive C&R aluminum radiator, with twin electric fans, and it's fed by Aeromotive: it has an Aeromotive fuel tank with in-tank Aeromotive 340 fuel pump with sufficient output to support changing to fuel injection (if you want to ditch the custom-tuned Holley 4BBL, that is). Exhaust starts with the ceramic coated Flowmaster headers, and feeds into a custom dual exhaust setup with stainless mufflers. The dual setup also has QTP cutouts (in case you want your whole neighborhood know you're heading out). Ignition is handled by MSD, of course. Power gets to the ground via a GM 12-bolt third member with 3.23:1 gears and an Eaton Posi unit, and an adjustable multilink Caltracs rear suspension. It rides on a proper 15-inch set of GM Rallye-style wheels, which are wrapped in BFG Radial T/A radials. Braking is courtesy of OEM front discs/rear drums but supported by a high pressure Wilwood master cylinder and proportioning valve. The entire front end was rebuilt and features new ball joints, steering rods and bushings, and a new power steering pump with a completely rebuilt gearbox. Inside, the interior is filled with new goodies: carpet, dash, door panels, rear panels, headliner, dash panel, gauges, window levers, locks, the Corbeau racing seats and 5-point RJS harnesses, tilt steering column, AutoMeter tach, and the RS gauge package in the center console. It's pretty much as nice as when it rolled off the line back in '69, except it's sporting way more power! Occupants will enjoy the Vintage Air HVAC system, which provides comfortable cabin temps year 'round, and the tunes from the AM/FM radio's parcel shelf speakers. This is a well-thought-out, nicely engineered build, and is ready to take its place in your garage next. Call or email our Houston Showroom today!
