If you’re a Japanese vehicle collector and you like your Z cars leaner and meaner, you should come by MotoeXotica Classic Cars to check out this 1977 Datsun 280Z that is rocking three 40 DCOE side draft Weber carburetors! This car spent most of its life in dry New Mexico, was restored by its previous owner who always kept it in a garage.
Dressed in black, the car’s paint and trim are in overall very good order with only minor imperfections. The car’s windows are in very good order, clear and crack-free, including the rear window with its electric defroster. The car’s lights are intact and haze-free, including the scalloped-out headlights.
The car’s bodywork is straight and solid, the car’s bumpers fit well to the body, the engine bay is extremely tidy, the battery looks good and the cargo area is in great shape. This Z car rolls on Goodyear Eagle GS radials, size P195/60R15 in front and P215/60R15 in back. Each tire surrounds a DP five-spoke black aluminum wheel. The wheels and tires are in great condition.
Resting under that forward-hinged hood is the original L28E 2.8L straight six-cylinder engine. This motor has cam and other performance modifications, including a triple 40 DCOE Weber carburetor setup and Mallory ignition. The L28E is the engine that was produced from 1975 to 1984 equipped with dish-top pistons from 1975 to 1978. Mated to this engine is a four-speed manual transmission. Driver convenience features include power four-wheel disc brakes and air conditioning. However, there is no air-conditioning compressor.
Inside, the car’s Recaro black seats are in great condition while the matching carpet and headliner are in satisfactory condition. The car’s three-spoke steering wheel, inner door panels, instrument panel with full array of gauges, center console and shift lever are all in great shape. Completing the interior is a Kenwood AM/FM stereo with a CD player and four speakers, one each in the doors and one each behind the seats.
Nineteen seventy-seven Datsun models received bumpers with recessed channels added to the faces of the bumpers themselves, that blended into corrugated or accordion style black rubber extension trim. Also new for the 1977 model year, 280Zs no longer received the full size spare tire, and instead had a “space saver” spare and a larger fuel tank.
Nineteen seventy-seven also saw an update from the charcoal painted hubcap style (with a chrome Z floating in the amber center emblems) to a hubcap that resembled an alloy wheel, bearing a center cap with a chrome Z floating in a black circle.
Competition to this Datsun in 1977 included the Avanti II and Chevrolet’s Corvette.

Amerikanischen Markt versuchen!" Sie verschifften den Datsun 1000, ein Auto so winzig, dass selbst ein Clown es bequem fahren könnte. Amerikaner kratzten sich am Kopf, aber verliebten sich bald in seine kompakte Niedlichkeit. Es war, als adoptiere man einen kleinen, vierrädrigen Welpen.

Mit dem Einzug der 60er Jahre enthüllte Datsun den 240Z, ein Sportwagen, der einen Samurai in Flip-Flops überholen konnte. Er hatte die Geschwindigkeit eines Geparden und ein Design, das Köpfe schneller drehte als ein Ninja auf Rollschuhen. Der 240Z wurde sofort zum Klassiker und zeigte, dass Datsun mehr war als nur eigenartige kleine Autos.

In den 70er Jahren brachte Datsun den 510 auf den Markt, eine Limousine mit der Agilität eines Ninjas und einer Federung so geschmeidig, dass man glauben konnte, man schwebe auf einer Wolke. Familien in ganz Amerika feierten ihn als das Auto, das alles transportieren konnte - von Lebensmitteln bis zu Omas - ohne ins Schwitzen zu geraten.

Aber die eigentliche Magie geschah, als Datsun den Datsun 510 Kombi vorstellte. Er war wie Mary Poppins' Tasche und fasste mehr als scheinbar menschenmöglich war. Dieser Kombi war ein Rätsel, ein Mysterium, und Amerika konnte nicht genug davon bekommen.

Dann, in den 80ern, machte Datsun einen cleveren Schachzug und änderte ihren Namen in Nissan und ließ uns alle ein wenig verwirrt zurück. Aber sie fuhren fort, fantastische Autos herzustellen, die flotter waren als ein Sushi-Koch an einem Samstagabend.
