Ferrari 550 Maranello 1999

Allgemeine Beschreibung : 1999 Ferrari 550 Maranello
VIN: ZFFZR49A7X0114640
Rosso Fiorano with Black Leather and Red Piping

Introduced in 1996 as the flagship of the Ferrari line, the Maranello replaced a long line of mid-engine cars that began with the Berlinetta Boxer and advanced to the Testarossa. Designed to capture the glory days of Ferrari’s legendary front-engine sports cars (notably the legendary 275GTG and 365 GTB/Daytona), the Maranello arrived to an enthusiastic public and automotive press who welcomed it as a universally beautiful car. The Pininfarina styling evoked all the grace and muscularity of many earlier Ferraris without succumbing to retro design ideas. The clean and beautifully proportioned body draped over the 485 hp V12 engine and 6-speed transaxle created a delightful harmony of power and grace.

This is a very capable and promising 550 Maranello, presented with desirable colors and the rare Carbon interior option, which could be driven, but is best situated for the budget-minded buyer looking to improve the mechanical and cosmetic aspects at their convenience. It has covered only 54,793 miles since being acquired new by a Mr. B. Puzas who retained the car for nearly its entire life. Finished in a rare metallic red with black interior and rare carbon interior trim, the mostly original paint retains a nice driver’s grade finish, however showing some small scuffs and minor dings on most of the body panels. The front bumper has been repainted and is a slightly off color match to the rest of the body. This car was originally delivered to Midwestern Auto Group in Dublin, OH and subsequently maintained by the first owner who amassed 52,000 miles before selling it. A recent Carfax shows no accidents or damage, regular interval service, and belt service at Ferrari Maserati of Fort Lauderdale at roughly 45,000 miles. Additional receipts of service from the original owner are included with the car.

Cosmetically, this Maranello is very promising despite some cosmetic needs. The paint is overall glossy and complete but has scuffs and minor dings on most of the body panels. The Formerly black window trim will need to be refinished as several areas have flaked off. The tinted glass appears in good condition. The wheels are the original style but have curb rash. A fresh set of front tires has been installed with virtually no miles. The doors, hood, and trunk all open and shut with confidence and panel gaps appear factory correct. The front bumper cap and air dam has been repainted but remains peppered with various stone chips and dings.

The interior of the car is finished with the rare Carbon Trim option. As with many of these 550 Maranellos, the interior has started to feel “tacky” or sticky on the plastic switch surfaces. Further there is some rippling along the center console (typical of these cars) and shrinkage that occurs on the dash as seen in the photos. Instruments and switches are all in very good to excellent condition. The drivers seat has some wear on the seat bolster, however all other leather surfaces including the headliner, center console, door panels, visors, and pillars are all in decent to good condition and serviceable. Carpeting is good overall. The trunk area is tidy and appears original with nice finishes and proper tools.

The engine and drivetrain have recently been reviewed by Patrick Ottis who has replaced the fuel pumps and fuel filters, as well as both front tires. The car starts easily and boasts the wonderful V12 exhaust note these cars are known for. The transmission, brakes, and suspension operate well and have a good feel on the road. However, more service work is likely to come as this 550 Maranello has been sitting for quite some time.

The book and tool set accompanies the sale and is both quite complete and in very good order. Records on file include the original purchase order, select records for the long term original ownership period, as well as evidence of a major belt service in 2009.

With known history and just one owner for nearly all its life, and great cosmetic and mechanical potential, this well-optioned, US Market 550 Ferrari Maranello is offered at an aggressive and accessible price-point for Ferrari enthusiast whom enjoys the process of improving his or her cars at their convenience.
