Mated to a four on the floor transmission, in short this is one fine factory hot rod!Finished in Chestnut Metallic (code V), the big Fords paint and trim are in overall excellent condition, with only a few minor blemishes visible upon extremely close inspection. The windows are clear and crack-free and the cars lights, including those signature lollipop taillamps, are intact and look fantastic. This big Ford rolls on new old stock Firestone gum-dipped tires, size 7.10-15, each surrounding a correct steel wheel with small wheel covers. The tires and wheels look showroom new. This Galaxies bodywork is straight and solid and the entire car is mostly original, no surprises and no upgrades. The engine bay is extremely tidy, as it and the chassis have been highly detailed to factory specifications, all the way down to the See-Clear windshield washer fluid bag. In that trunk youll find the correct mat, a full-spare tire and a jack. The bumpers fit tightly to the body and the battery looks very good.In that clean engine compartment is Fords seldom seen high-performance 390 CID V-8 with solid lifters (code Q) and a Holley four-barrel carburetor. Rare parts include the distributor, aluminum intake manifold, cast iron exhaust headers and golden THUNDERBIRD valve covers. The air cleaner housing is painted to match the valve covers. Backing this rare gem of a motor is a four-speed manual transmission (code 5) and a 3.80:1, nine-inch rear end (code 7). Driver convenience features include power steering and tinted glass.Inside, the cars mostly original Chestnut interior (code 39) is in overall great condition. The front and rear bench seats look great though the drivers side front seat shows some minimal wear and there's a tear in the dash pad at the speaker cover. The matching carpet is in fine order, while the contrasting light-colored headliner is in great shape. The original three-spoke steering wheel is present and looks great, while the door panels and instrument panel maintain that early 60s Space Race vibe. The four-on-the-floor shift lever is original and looks awesome. Completing this interior is a factory AM radio. For 1962, the Galaxie name applied to all of Ford's full size models, as theFairlanename was moved to a new intermediate model and Custom was temporarily retired. New top-lineGalaxie 500(two-door sedan and hardtop, four-door sedan and hardtop and "Sunliner" convertible) models offered plusher interiors, more chrome trim outside and a few additional luxury items over and above what was standard on the plainer Galaxie models.Tailfins were gone, giving the 1962 models a more rounded, softer rear end look. Taillights were set lower into the rear panel and were partially sunken into the newly sculpted rear bumper. An oval version of the Galaxie "star" emblem replaced Ford crests on the roof sail panels on hardtops. Front fenders shapes were the same as 1961; a slightly modified flat-face grille featured a large star emblem in its center for all 500 and higher-priced Galaxie models.Competition to this Ford in 1962 included Chevrolets Biscayne and Bel-Air two-door sedans and Dodges Dart and Polara two-door sedans. If youre a fan of full-size Fords from the early 1960s, do yourself a favor and scoot on over to Mot Xotica Classic Cars ASAP to check this big boy out. This car is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri.
