While the appeal of a classic Mustang is undeniable, anyone anxious to put one in their garage will likely encounter some fairly substantial obstacles. Tracking one down isn't all that difficult but finding a specimen at an attainable price that doesn't require a thorough dissection and rebuilding is another story. This 1968 Ford Mustang offers the solution. As a driver it's already very streetable as is, and over time if you like, you'll be able to easily take things up a notch making it an exemplary representative of its breed.
The Candy apple red draped over its first-generation form is a nice match, equipping this endlessly appealing classic with some added vitality. The white C-stripes gracing its sides are usually reserved for the GT members of the model, but the color combo is a winner regardless and even though it's an older paint, a cut and buff would really turn some heads! Its array of brightwork and trim is completely intact - you won't find any of those telltale holes in the sheet metal that indicate a part has shaken loose, and the bumpers in both front and back appear level and straight.
Inside the doors, the black vinyl interior is in pretty solid shape. The front buckets still offer plenty of padding and sit on straight, sturdy frames as they straddle an aftermarket center console that provides a pair of cupholders and some welcome interior storage space, while the carpet lining the floor below is looking strong and is punctuated with a pair of Mustang-branded floor mats up front. The air conditioning system was recently replaced and is in top form and the dash area, often a weak spot in classics and especially those with UV-sensitive black interiors, is in good shape, with wood grain accents that still look fresh and factory gauges that are easily readable behind their clear lenses. The dash pad running across the top shows no cracks and remains unbowed and level while a Sanyo AM/FM/cassette stereo is at the center to provide your soundtrack while on the road.
The engine bay has been nicely kept up - it shows no grime build-up and the wiring and hoses inside look nice and fresh. You'll find a 200 cubic inch inline 6 sitting between the shock towers, wearing a chrome-lidded air cleaner and a block and valve cover that have been painted a nice shade of blue. The engine runs smoothly and teams with a 3-speed automatic C4 transmission. Power brakes equip this vintage Ford with low-effort stops as it rolls on its set of 14" stock wheels that are outfitted with Goodyear tires and the undercarriage looks to be in good order, with solid floor pans and straight frame rails and suspension components.
