Pontiac Other 1934

Allgemeine Beschreibung : Description
If you've been-there, done-that with Fords and Chevys, how about something a little flashier and bolder like this absolutely dialed-in, multiple award-winning 1934 Pontiac Rumble Seat coupe? Featuring a strong 400 V8, a smooth-shifting automatic transmission, and an incredibly comfortable A/C interior wrapped in gorgeous Carmine Red steel livery, this rare pre-war coupe is a high-impact head-turner of the highest order. Exceptionally designed, beautifully built, and featuring all the modern conveniences you'd want in a ready-to-cruise hotrod, it more than lives up to the Excitement Division's reputation for performance and style.
Professionally painted with layer after layer of multi-stage PPG Carmine Red finish that was then buried under clearcoat, the flashy red paint is elegant and eye-catching, and the overall look is simply gorgeous. But before you paint a car such a high-impact shade you better make darn sure that the body and prep work is excellent, and the builders certainly didn't skimp in that department when they dissembled the car, stripped and smoothed all the steel, block sanded for hours, and even added ¼ inch cold-rolled steel around the edges of the fenders for reinforcement. And the results speak for themselves, because even after 25,752 miles of long-distance cruising and trophy-hunting, this Poncho still shows like a top-quality driver. The impossibly long hood, sweeping fenders, and slanted rumble-seat rear make for dramatic proportions and thanks to the exceptional build quality, this '34 makes a dramatic statement everywhere it goes. It has only very minor signs of use, and after having won awards at some of the biggest shows and crisscrossed large swaths of the country, it's barely broken-in. The 1934 Pontiacs were also some of the most attractive cars on the road, with painted radiator shells, waterfall grilles, and flowing fenders that seem to work especially well when the car is low to the ground, emphasizing the cool running boards and flashy wheel and tires stuffed inside the fenders. It includes all the wonderful '30s details such as driving lights, a louvered hood, fender lamps, and delicate little taillights on body-colored stalks. The padded vinyl roof and rumble seat out back are fantastic options that will leave all the Ford and Chevy guys envious, and the covered spare tire out back is a precursor to the big continental kits that would soon be found on classic American cars in the next couple decades. Everything fits together precisely thanks to exact reassembly after the paint job, and all the doors shut flush and line up better than new. There's not an overabundance of chrome, and that's a good thing because we want that paint to do most of the talking, but the shiny stuff that is on the car is polished up beautifully, including the bright bumpers fore and aft, the shiny grille and side louvers, and the outline ring of the spare. Man, what a gorgeous car!
The white and dark red interior is the perfect complement to the exterior, fully restored to a high standard with long-distance cruising in mind. High-back buckets transplanted from a late-model car were professionally upholstered in white vinyl and cloth and fit perfectly inside the cozy cabin, offering plenty of room for a driver and passenger and even allowing some storage space behind them. The nearly flat floor makes the interior feel especially roomy, making this a car you can drive long distances without feeling claustrophobic, and the entire cabin was insulated with sound and heat deadening material throughout. Custom door panels were created to match the seats and the dark red carpets are a wonderful contrast. A tilt column is fitted to the pained dash, which is now full of beautiful gold trim and adorned with real wood, along with artistic dials from VDO just beyond the LeCarra steering wheel. A Vintage A/C system was neatly integrated in a gold panel under the dash, and it's joined by a modern AM/FM/CD head unit that powers the speakers in the custom shelf out back.
This Pontiac is a big car and to move this much sheetmetal, you need some juice. The original block was dumped, obviously, and it now gets motivation from a rebuilt 400 V8 swapped in from a '70s Catalina that runs superbly. It was detailed with a chrome air cleaner, finned Pontiac valve covers, light blue on the block itself, and a body-color firewall and inner fenders. An Edelbrock 4-barrel carb and intake help build power and are easy to tune, while stock manifolds deliver a mellow tone via a dual exhaust system. It's backed by a rebuilt TH400 automatic transmission and a rebuilt 9-inch rear end out of a '78 Mercury, so everything is easy to service and virtually bulletproof. The Mustang II front suspension gives it power front disc brakes and power steering, and the stance is just right thanks to a flashy set of American Racing alloys wrapped in BFGoodrich blackwall radials that fill the fenders.
This is a lot of car for a fraction of the build cost, and it runs and drives as great as it looks. Provided with a long history of this car's pedigree, restoration, and even background on the owner that is a bit of a Pontiac legend himself, this is a very special piece. Try something different and travel in first class with this lovely '34. Call now!
