1987 Aston Martin Lagonda Shooting Brake For Sale in London ( LHD )

A historical model in the continuing history of the Aston Martin marque, this particular car is an example of the so-called ‘Series 3’ Lagonda, the second iteration of William Town’s futuristic design, unlike any other car in production of the day. Initially, Aston Martin’s periodic revival of the Lagonda was first applied to a stretched, four-door saloon in late 1974, the last thing anyone expected was a new Lagonda at the London Motor Show- but there it was on Stand 128.

Many thought the car was going to be resurrected when, early in 1976, we started hearing rumours of a new Lagonda. Then came an invitation to a press lunch which was to be held almost appropriately at The Bell on 12 October. After the meal, a curtain across one end of the large dining-room was drawn back, and for the first time, we saw the new Aston Martin Lagonda.

Built by hand in the Newport Pagnell tradition to the very highest standards, the body is built of aluminium and mounted on a modified version of the AMV8 steel strong chassis. By then, the engine was well tried and tested including an all alloy V8 designed by Tadek Marek, while William Towns is responsible for the styling which is both futuristic and conspicuously original. “A significant example for the embodiment the luxury and exclusivity of the Lagonda shows that the road test  October 11th 1980 recorded a 0-60 m.p.h of 7.9 seconds with a maximum speed of 145 m.p.h.”

The Series III was introduced at the New York Motor Show in January 1986, where fuel injection replaced the Weber-Marelli carburettors and had a substantial increase in power to 300 b.h.p. in Europe and 240 b.h.p in the U.S.A. Servicing has been carried out by Aston Martin at Newport Pagnell or an authorised A.M. dealer and is over and absolutely above standard, the Lagonda is a sleek creation which is an intriguing limousine and sports car blend and includes an excellent pedigree for an exclusive car.

While the new Lagonda saloon used the same long-wheelbase V8 chassis as its predecessor, it was truly revolutionary in terms of electronic instrumentation and switchgear.

This incredible example is finished in glorious metallic Graphite Grey coachwork with Dover Grey Connelly hide, piped White with Onslow Grey Wilton carpets and matching lambswool over rugs. Delivered new to Switzerland the car was ordered with factory fitted rear cocktail requisites, TV and picnic tables. The car stayed with it’s first long-term owner until 2006 when it passed on to it’s next luck custodian where the car formed part a significant collection until the present day. It was during this ownership that the Lagonda was painstakingly converted to ‘Shooting Brake’ specification by internationally renowned marque specialists. The brief was to create something special which kept the William Town’s futuristic design intact. Project ‘Shooting Brake’ commenced at the beginning of 2011 and the build was exclusively featured in a documentary by Swedish ‘Gran Tourismo’ TV.

Even today, 42 years after its sensational debut, there are few cars that can match the visual presence of the Aston Martin Lagonda.
