Austin FX4 Taxicab 1993

Allmän beskrivning : The London Taxi Company designed and built, as you may have guessed, Taxi’s and was situated in Coventry, England. They had been in the Taxi business since 1919. After half a century of building coachwork in small, short runs, they decided it was time to change tack. The LTC was able obtain the rights to build London Cabs from Austin and went from coach builder to fully fledged vehicle manufacturer.In 1993 our “Fairway” was registered for the first time in England. A copy of the original V5 document is in the files. In 1999 the cab was registered in The Netherlands after being earmarked for a LTC supplier. Whilst the average cab remained in service on London’s road until it was completely used up, a totally different future lay ahead for this specific example. Instead of treading the roads of London, this one became a prototype after six years. In order to refine passenger comfort the Dutch VDL firm was asked to develop improved shock breakers for the cab. Whilst there was room for improvement using conventional shock breakers, VDL decided to investigate the possibility of air suspension. The LTC director was instantly impressed with the improved comfort when he came over to The Netherlands and was picked up in one of his own modified vehicles. The additional cost was too much for London Cabbies but would work for a number of export markets. So the air suspended taxi actually went into production and was exported abroad in small batches. Our cab stayed in The Netherlands with only one owner unto now. You have the opportunity to acquire a riding prototype of one of the most iconic vehicles in the world! It comes with electric flow charts, extra bellows and a series of photos detailing fitting the air suspension. Because this cab has not been flogged to death on the streets of London, she has remained in very good condition. The indestructible diesel engine runs well and moves through the gears pleasantly. The interior trim is very neat and the cab is totally rust-free. It is probably superfluous to say but this cab is extremely suitable for promotional purposes.
