It is hard to finish complementing this car as the leather, wood work (including the beautifully finished steering wheel), and carpets are all presented in great condition.
To the interior both drivers and passenger door cards were supplied new with hip flasks and glasses in a concealed compartment. With the drivers side currently full of cognac the compartment is lockable to prevent any temptation when travelling.
The same quality in shown in the engine bay which is appreciated even more when you start the engine.
This Corniche really must be seen and driven to appreciate the sheer quality of craftsmanship that has be used to build and maintain it.
This very rare Bentley Corniche convertible was ordered new on May 10th 1977 by James A Whittenburg III from Amarillo Texas.
The first owner being a close friend of the Rolls-Royce importer in America managed to obtain a detailed 52 page build sheet.
This copy of all workshop sheets used by RR Crewe Factor and Mulliner Park Ward detail each step through the cars construction and include the quality control certificate issued by MPW and the delivery note.
The first owner kept this Corniche until the 18th of May 1991.
The car was purchased by Jean yves Duperret, the famous French pastry chef based in San Francisco.
In 2010 Duperret opened pastry shops in London and decided to return his Bentley to England where he gained the assistance of a longtime friend Lunn to help register the car. Lunn at the time was one of the key managers at the renowned coachbuilders Gurney Nutting.
The Mot certificates state that in 2010 only 50,030 miles were on the clock.
In 2012 Duperret sold his Bentley to Aldo Giassi. Aldo was a Milanese patriot and was one of the most famous members of the Italian resistance during WW2 and also the founder of the Battaglia Milan who fought against Mussolini and the Wehrmacht army.
Upon his death the car passed through Classic Motors in Monte San pietro in Bologna,. Here the car was re-comissioned prior to selling to Professor Bruno Marelli of Milan.
In 2015 the current owner purchased the car from Soccol cars in Milan. A French man living in Brussels who knew the car and it’s owner in the 1990’s. He recalls driving a Silver Cloud 1 (which he still owns) commuting from San Francisco house to Stanford Campus where he was a student. On weekends, he would often drive his cloud to his friend’s pastry shop where he would park his car next to this Bentley Corniche.
