1988 Ferrari 208 GTS Turbo Targa-Top For Sale In London (LHD)

Finished the iconic colour combination of Rossa Corsa coachwork with Crema hide. Benefitting with the highly desirable factory option of air conditioning and 16” alloy wheels with matching Continental tyres fitted. Built for the Italian home market and supplied new via MOTOR S.P.A Bologna 30th November 1988. Over the course of the next 31 years, this example has been meticulously maintained throughout its life. Prior to the arrival of the car into the UK in 2016 it had been in the same ownership since 1995 where the car was registered in the prestigious Italian automotive club ASI.

On file, the car still has its original factory supplied service book which is exceptionally rare to find still with the car plus a wealth of invoice and history. The overall condition of this beautiful example is reflected in its ultra-low miles, this is reinforced with the overall condition of the car which will simply not disappoint upon viewing. The cabin is exquisitely presented throughout showing virtually little signs of wear to the seats, door cards, gearbox tunnel and dashboard which these cars are prone to suffer with if poorly maintained.  The coachwork again is a reflection of how the former owners have looked after this example and saving the best to last its highly detailed engine compartment.

Early viewing is highly recommended to avoid disappointment.

Turbocharging had taken a strong foothold in Formula 1 racing and the experience gained on the tracks soon made the leap to production with the 208 GTB Turbo, unveiled at the 1982 Turin Motor Show.

The 2,000 cc V8 was given a considerable injection of power which radically transformed the whole character of the car, lending it the kind of superb acceleration normally unthinkable in a car of this displacement. A GTS version with a removable Targa top was also available.

Initially there were no plans to produce a targa roof variant on the 208 Turbo, but due to demand from clients the 208 GTS Turbo became available in 1983. As with the fixed roof version, the changes to the Pininfarina designed body relative to the 208 GTS were very small, there was a deep front spoiler with a row of five horizontal cooling slots just below the radiator grille and the front lid featured a row of satin black finished louvres to increase airflow through the radiator, due to the higher temperatures created by the turbocharging of the engine.

Den första Ferrari väg bil var de 125 S introducerades 1947 och drivs av en 1,5 L V12 motor, eller hur?
Tja det är inte riktigt så enkelt, Ferrari faktiskt producerar e Tipo 815, 1940 Tipo 815 ritades av ex-Alfa Romeo ingenjörer Alberto Massimino och Vittorio Bellentani och Enrico Nardi enligt Enzo sällskap men juridiska frågor med det tidigare intresse Alfa Romeo hindrade Ferrari från att lansera Ferrari marque vid den punkten.

Enzo fick fram en rad fina väg bilar på 50-talet och 60-talet, men de var bara för att finansiera sin passion racing, väder GT / Sportbil eller Grand Prix. 50-talet såg födelsen av Ferraris mest minnesvärda bilar, 250 GTB (tour de France) 250 Testa Rossa, 250 GT SWB bara för att nämna några.

Under ytspänningen växte dock. I November 1961 erfaren försäljningschef Girolamo Gardini gjorde ett ultimatum till Enzo: om spänningar fortsatte skulle han lämna företaget. Som ett resultat var Gardini avsattes, liksom Scuderia Ferrari manager Romolo Tavoni, överingenjör Carlo Chiti, experimentell sportbil utveckling chief Giotto Bizzarrini, och ett antal andra, som stod vid dem.
Utan Chiti och Bizzarrini utvecklingen av vad som skulle bli den mest kvintessensen Ferrari och idag världens dyraste bil, 250 GTO, var vid en svängpunkt. 250 GTO projekt räddades av en ung ingenjör Mauro Forghieri och lång tid racing bodyman Sergio Scaglietti som klev in och tog över programmet med kända resultat.

I slutet av 60-talet Ferraris prototyper framgång fick ett abrupt stopp av en ny konkurrent, GT40. Ford vände sig till Lola för att producera en Ferrari slog långdistans racer efter Enzo hade klippt affären av med Henry Ford II gör det senare absolut koka av vrede. Samarbetet mellan Ford och Lola skapade den mäktiga Ford GT40 som gav Ferrari några tunga hits i Le Mans 24 framöver.
I slutet av 60-talet FIAT köpte 50% av bolaget, med start en utveckling som har lett till en ny massproducerade era av Ferraris.
