Restored with a blank checkbook, and stuffed full of 350 cubic inches of V8 thunder, this 1980 Jeep CJ7 Renegade is a lean, mean, off-roading machine that delivers on Jeep's promise of go-anywhere fun. The only thing that'll keep you off the trails in this one is the fact that with a high-quality restoration, it's almost too nice to take it out among the rocks.
Lots of cash went into this ultra-clean Jeep and you can see it everywhere you look. It certainly isn't subtle wearing that bright orange paint, and since it was going to attract attention, they really have gone the extra mile to get it right. It's one of the straightest, cleanest Jeeps we've ever featured. No Jeep is perfect, mind you, but this CJ nicer than these off-roaders usually are and clearly someone did it for love, not money. The usual Jeep trouble spots above the rear wheel arches and by the tailgate are quite good and the two-stage urethane paint looks like it should be on a much more expensive vehicle. Rubber fender extensions offer protection from the oversized tires and a "Renegade" decal package under the clearcoat (very nice touch) adds just a little contrast to this eyeball-searing Jeep. Other new gear includes a chrome bumper and windshield hinges, typical asymmetric side mirrors, and bright rocker panels with diamond plate steps that are actually pretty useful on this tall 4x4.
The high-end feel continues inside, where fresh Best Top seats have been installed fore and aft. The high-back seats are sporty, especially with the roll bar hovering above them, and they're comfortable enough for a long day of fun. The floors are protected by spray-in bedliner material and a vinyl mat, so you don't have to worry about getting it dirty; just hose it out when you get home. A tilt steering column wears a fat steering wheel that is easy to grab and keep pointed in the right direction, even with the ground fighting you, and the Auto Meter gauges are all big, clear, and easy to read in the rough. For entertainment, there's also an AM/FM/CD stereo system, with custom speaker built into the rear storage boxes wrapped in matching vinyl on either side of the back seat. And if and when you need some cover from the elements, this Jeep comes with a full soft top and soft doors.
The 350 cubic inch Chevrolet V8 is a neat fit in the CJ's engine bay, almost as if the same guys designed them both. It's clear that the goal was an OEM look, and you can see that cubic dollars were spent here to get everything dialed in. The engine looks quite stock and wears a simple black paint job that works well in the black engine bay, and a few chrome dress-up parts don't hurt. Thanks to an awesome power-to-weight ratio, performance is very impressive and the soundtrack provided by the Flowmaster dual exhaust system with tips behind the rear wheels is worth the price of admission all by itself. A TH350 3-speeed automatic transmission makes it easy when you're slogging through the rough stuff, and the 2-speed transfer case gives you enough torque to power through just about any obstacle. You'll note that the hardware underneath is in excellent condition, including a great lift kit, new shocks, and brakes that have been upgraded with YJ components. Shiny expensive Weld wheels look great, especially wrapped in fat 33x12.5-15 BFGoodrich off-road radials.
So don't sweat it, this CJ7 has you covered. Lots of power, awesome good looks, fresh interior, all ready to hit the trail. On the other hand, it's just so pretty that it would be a shame to dirty it up. Your choice, but a fantastic Jeep either way. Call today!
