Maserati Ghibli 4.9 SS 1971

Allmän beskrivning : Furlonger have recently acquired this exceptionally well-presented Maserati Ghibli 4.9SS Spyder Conversion, wearing Deep Lavender Blue paintwork over a Tan interior.
By 1973, production of the Ghibli had ended with various versions constructed, with just 1,149 coupes and a mere 128 Spyder’s built in this period. Just 46 of these Ghibli’s were 4.9L SS’s, 39 of which were manual.
Purchased from a collector in the USA in 1993 by Mr James Lindsay, (son of Hon. Patrick Lindsay, a prominent figure in the British classic car scene). Mr Lindsay purchased the silver Ghibli 4.9SS with a 4.7 litre Ghibli coupe with fixed open headlamps which he then sold on.
He retained the silver coupe, which was later converted to Spyder specification, using a kit imported from the US whose user’s manual/brochure accompanies the cars history file. The car was converted by Eddie Noone of Vale Cottage Motors, who did several conversions for both Mistrals and Ghiblis. During the conversion, which was made possible by the US made kit, the car was stripped and painted a beautiful shade of Blue and the interior retrimmed. At the end of the project, the Ghibli was mechanically overhauled in all aspects. The car has since been maintained by numerous historic Maserati specialists including McGrath, Graphmill Engineering ETC.
In 2011, the Ghibli was subjected to a full nut and bolt restoration which lasted for 3 years. The Ghibli has since changed hands a couple of times, with its most recent custodian cherishing the car for the last 7 years, meaning that the car has had just 4 owners since being registered in the U.K.
The Maserati Ghibli 4.9SS is a rare and enticing prospect for any historic motoring enthusiast, the very car that rivalled Ferraris 365 GTB/4 Daytona in the early 70s. This example is beautifully presented throughout, accompanied by a well-documented history with numerous historic invoices, receipts and MOT’s.
