Allmän beskrivning : The 1985 Frankfurt motor show was chosen for the unveiling of the 959 road car, although numerous delays meant production would not start for another year, with the first cars being delivered in early 1987. The 959 was available in two trim specifications, "Komfort" and "Sport". The 959 was incredibly advanced at the time of its launch and featured a 2.8 litre twin-turbocharged flat six engine, six-speed manual transmission, adjustable suspension, tyre pressure sensors, and an intelligent four-wheel drive system. The 959 was truly a game changing car that brought Porsche into the 21st century and moved automotive technology and performance on in great strides. Even with a launch price of almost $300,000, Porsche lost money on every single 959 they sold due to the massive costs associated with the construction and research and development of the carProduction ended in 1988 with a total run of 337 cars built, including prototypes and pre-production models. Out of these, just 29 cars were ordered in the more track-focused "Sport" specification. This gave the car larger turbo-chargers that increased power output to 508 bhp (up 60 bhp from "Komfort") and resulted in a top-speed of 211mph as tested by AMS at the Nardò ring in 1988. In addition to the increased power, the "Sport" variants also gained a leather wrapped internal roll cage, four-point racing harnesses, and grippier cloth upholstery instead of leather. The "Sport" models boasted more conventional coil-over suspension, air conditioning and the stereo was stripped, helping the 959 Sport weigh around 100kg less than the more luxurious "Komfort".The car we are delighted to offer for sale is one of the 29 "Sport" variants and was produced in late 1988. It has covered an incredibly low 2,600 miles during its life and has had a total spend of almost £100,000 GBP over the last three years, as such, the car sits today in sublime condition and is surely one of the best examples of the 959 Sport in existence. The car has been displayed at numerous events over the last five years, including Chantilly Concours d'Elegance, London Classic Car show, Bicester Heritage, and various Goodwood events.In 2017, the current owner had the car upgraded with the factory Willreth engine upgrade kit. This upgrade was to a cost of just under €30,000 and means the car now produces 600bhp, an increase of almost 100bhp over the original "Sport" specification!A year later in 2018 it was sent to Porsche specialists Heritage Auto Werks in the United Kingdom who carried out a full overhaul on the car. Work included; all new suspension and shock absorbers, new turbos, new fuel pumps, engine rebuild, and a new clutch.During this time the interior was fully stripped and retrimmed in Grey cloth and the magnesium Speedline wheels painted in Grand Prix white. Heritage Auto Werks also fitted a new WABCO 959 ABS tester to the car to a cost of $10,000 USD. The car was finally subject to a full deep clean and detail of all interior parts and paintwork.The pinnacle of Porsche performance and technology in the 1980s, the 959 S is nothing short of an automotive legend. With only 29 Sport models built, they remain by far and away the most desirable 959s and command a substantial premium over the 'regular' Komfort models.
