Wanneer u ooit Italië heeft bezocht, of de taal machtig bent, weet waar Sud voor staat. Een Alfa Romeo of aan het zuiden? In dit geval voor beiden! In de jaren zestig wilde Alfa Romeo een nieuw compact model uitbrengen, het had daar echter financieel niet de mogelijkheid toe. De Italiaanse overheid wilde wel geld ter beschikking stellen, met als voorwaarde dat de te produceren auto's in het zuiden van Italië geproduceerd zouden gaan worden. Daar was als gevolg van hoge werkeloosheid het geld het best besteed dacht men in regeringskringen. Die zelfde regering had nooit kunnen bevroeden dat men bij Alfa Romeo nu nog last heeft van die beslissing. Arbeiders die liever in de zon zaten dan zich in het zweet werkte naast een productieband, slechte staalkwaliteit en bijvoorbeeld het onbeschermd door de buitenlucht vervoeren van kale carrosserieën naar de spuitafdeling. Het gebeurde allemaal bij de Alfa Romeo fabrieken rondom Napels. Die stad zelf is ook al lang failliet. Tel daar bij op dat een Alfa Romeo vooral een gebruiksauto was, een lang leven lag dus niet voor de hand. De combinatie van bouwkwaliteit en intensief gebruik maakt dat een roestvrije, originele en ongerestaureerde Alfa Sud vinden net zo moeilijk is als een Italiaan zonder Amante. Een vierdeurs auto werd in die tijd natuurlijk vooral gekocht om de dagelijkse boodschappen mee te doen of de kinderen naar school te brengen, gezien de bouwkwaliteit van de Sud zijn ze daarom bijna allemaal opgereden. Het is aanzienlijk eenvoudiger een Ferrari uit 1975 in topstaat te vinden dan een Sud zoals hier aangeboden. Deze Alfa Sud L is een originele onverprutste harde dus roestvrije auto, uiteraard gevonden in midden Italië. In de prachtige kleurstelling Blu Posillipo gecombineerd met een prachtige interieurkleur. Zie de foto's die voor zich spreken. Wij hebben de auto al voorzien van een Nederlands kenteken in 'oud blauw' en een onderhoudsbeurt gegeven zodat ze weer kan doen waar ze feitelijk voor gemaakt is. Van november tot april adviseer ik wel quarantaine.
