Bentley 6 1/2 Litre 1/2 Litre Tourer 1926

General description : 1926 Bentley 6 1/2 Litre Tourer.

Chassis No: WK2661
Engine No: FR2635
Registration number: YR1978

A simply magnificent Bentley 6 1/2 litre Bentley with a recent engine rebuild being completed at the cost of £70,000.  The car is thus in fine order & ready for immediate extended use.

The 12ft 6 chassis (382 cm) of WK 2661 came out of Cricklewood in November 1926 with engine no FR 2635. Its first owner, Major Creyke, specified a Weymann type saloon body from H.J.Mulliner. It remained in England for a long time before being taken to Sweden by its new owner, who had R.C.Moss convert it to a Vanden Plas style tourer in the early Sixties.

The car is finished in a pleasing shade of blue painted bonnet & wings, with Blue rexine fabric to the body, all of which is in fine order.  To the interior is Grey hide throughout again in lovely condition with matching grey carpets.  A black mohair hood easily erects although it appears to have been little used.

The engine having been rebuilt is in fine fettle.  It starts instantly, & pulls very strongly in all gears.  Twin driving lamps up front augment the large head lamps during nocturnal excursions.  A large & sonorous brass klaxon is mounted under the bonnet, as is a modern full flow oil filter.

Its present owner, a Dutchman, bought it twenty-three years ago in December 1993 from well known London dealer Gregor Fisken. He has used it profitably to enjoy Concours d'Elegance and Rallies as far afield as the Bentley International Tour of South Africa in 2001. During his tenure the car has been maintained without regard to cost as indeed attested to by the big bills that come with the car.

This 6 1/2 litre Bentley  is all original mechanically , so it's a true " matching numbers" car. It gets its charm from its distinctive bodywork which pays tribute to the Le Mans Speed Sixes, and partly from its torque and the superb way it drives. That's what these W.O.Bentleys are about. It's a marvelous machine, waiting to seek out new adventures and pile on the miles !

About Bentley
Before becoming a mere subsidiary to Rolls-Royce, Bentley was an independent Automaker famous for the "fastest lorries in the world" e.i Bentley 4½ Litre.

Good ol' Bentley boys (A group of wealthy British motorists, mainly Woolf Barnato, Sir Henry "Tim" Birkin, steeplechaser George Duller, aviator Glen Kidston, S.C.H. "Sammy" Davis, and Dr Dudley Benjafield ) -in their trusty Bentley cars- took four consecutive victories at 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1924, 1927, 1928, 1929, 1930

In 1931 Bentley was taken over British Central Equitable Trust that later proved to be a front for Rolls-Royce Limited. Unhappy with his role at Rolls-Royce, W.O. Bentley left the company when his contract expired in 1935 duly joining Lagonda. This was beginning of which ultimately led Bentley cars to become more or less badge-engineered Rolls-Royce.
