Bentley S1 Continental H.J. Mulliner Fastback 1956

General description : 1956 Bentley S1 Continental H.J. Mulliner Fastback

Registration number: TBA

Under long term ownership for several decades, this car is a low mileage example having covered a scant 66,000 miles.   It is a very early example with single master cylinder having been registered first in January of 1956. We will be properly photographing it during the next few weeks once we have a chance to visit it in its garage in Austria where it resides as part of a small collection of iconic high end cars.

The car is finished in its original colour of Midnight blue with the paint having been redone to a very high standard a few years ago.  The interior is original leather & throughout & again is in very fine order as is the burr walnut woodwork.

Mechanically the car has been maintained wihout regard to expense & is in superb condition driving simply beautifully.  Currently on Austrian Plates the car may be driven on them to its new home or alternatively we can UK register it for the new owner & deliver it by trailer from the onwers garage in Austria.

About Bentley
Before becoming a mere subsidiary to Rolls-Royce, Bentley was an independent Automaker famous for the "fastest lorries in the world" e.i Bentley 4½ Litre.

Good ol' Bentley boys (A group of wealthy British motorists, mainly Woolf Barnato, Sir Henry "Tim" Birkin, steeplechaser George Duller, aviator Glen Kidston, S.C.H. "Sammy" Davis, and Dr Dudley Benjafield ) -in their trusty Bentley cars- took four consecutive victories at 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1924, 1927, 1928, 1929, 1930

In 1931 Bentley was taken over British Central Equitable Trust that later proved to be a front for Rolls-Royce Limited. Unhappy with his role at Rolls-Royce, W.O. Bentley left the company when his contract expired in 1935 duly joining Lagonda. This was beginning of which ultimately led Bentley cars to become more or less badge-engineered Rolls-Royce.
