1951 Citroën 2CV For Sale in London (LHD)

Ranking alongside the Volkswagen Beetle, Mini, and Land Rover as one of the classic mass-produced cars of the post-war era, Citroën’s quirky 2CV debuted in 1949. Intended to provide basic transport in a period of post-war austerity, the 2CV outlived its humble beginnings, going on to attain cult status as the favoured car of the environmentally concerned motorist. Although the original 375cc air-cooled flat-twin engine grew eventually to 602cc, the 2CV’s performance remained relatively modest at around 110km/h flat-out, not that that concerned the majority of its devotees for whom the roomy interior, full-length sunroof, and frugal fuel consumption were of far greater importance. Civilian, military, and commercial versions were produced and there was even a twin-engined 4×4: the ‘Sahara’. It was a sad day for many when the last French-built 2CV left the Levallois factory in 1988.

Finished in Smoke Silver with the correct period Blue/Yellow/Red chequered trim and a full roll top Convertible roof. Having been subjected to a complete restoration by a former owner, this particular example still looks stunning today. Part of the ultra-elite, the humble 2CV is a registered member of FIVa and still has the correct 375cc engine. Complete with a wealth of invoices and photographs of the restoration, this particularly charming example will not disappoint upon viewing.

About Citroen
French industrialist André Citroën had been building arms for the French army during WWI by the end of the war he was left with great industrial facilities but no product for the post war market.

In 1919 he founded Citroen that became the first mass-production car company outside the USA[3] and a pioneer of the modern marketing as well as factory backed services network. Mind you, even Eiffel Tower served as a billboard for Citroën from 1925 to 1934 -Mon Dieu, monsier!

Soon Citroën earned a reputation for innovation and revolutionary engineering. Staying true to their slogan "Créative Technologie" Citroën has many "firsts" under their belt:

Europe’s first all-steel-bodied car, the B10 In 1934.

The world's first mass-produced front-wheel drive car,Traction Avant, (also one of the first cars to feature a monocoque-type body)

The world's first hydropneumatic self-levelling suspension system, introduced with the revolutionary Citroën DS / ID models in 1955, as well as the first production car with disc brakes.

Swiveling headlights in 1967, and finally variable assist power steering in 1970

With Citroën purchasing Maserati in 1968 a door opened for a high speed GT-model that would compete with Ferrari, Aston Martin et. al, when introduced Citroen SM was the world's fastest fwd-car.
