Ford 5-Window Coupe 400c.i. V8 1940

General description : 1940 Ford Custom With the popularity of the nostalgic hot rod style in the modern time it can be tough to tell the recently built hot rods from the vintage ones.  Nowadays people are great at creating that old school look but something about a real old hot rod always stands out.  This 40 Ford is one of those old school hot rods that was built when the style was new!  The car was actually built and customized over 50 years ago in 1960.  The car was done in California and stayed there most of its life until being sold to a new owner in Florida.  The current owner bought it from the Florida owner and took the car to Mississippi.  The car was solid on its arrival but was covered in spider cracks from the original custom lacquer paint so it was sent to Kirby Stafford who stripped it to bare metal, did some more body modifications and laid down the traditional flames on top of new beuatiful PPG Flame Red paint resulting in the combo you see today.  The chop you see on the car is the original cuts from 1960 and involves a 3.5 inch chop in front, 4 inch in the rear. But they did not stop there and the new owner wanted some more modifications made. So prior to the new paint the door panels were shaved as well as the decklid. The most dramatic new modification is a 2 inch pie cut to the hood and the V-butt windshield.  The side trim was also shortened and the center seam filled with the hood opener and ornament being removed.  All of this combined subtly changes up the look to be longer and have more of a rake with gentle bends in the bodylines. While the this work was being done the owner decided the car could benefit from some modern upgrades so they went through the motor, had a new interior installed and added a TCI Engineering chassis. Some of the stock chrome was used like the bumpers and the car still has its rubber running boards.  Completing that hot rod exterior is a set of Rocket wheels with wide white wall Coker tires.  Pop open that custom hood and you will find a 400 c.i. small block V8 motor.  It wears a custom pinstriped Black Technostalgia air cleaner and lots of other chrome accents.  A Comp cam is in place as well as a Joe Hunt magneto/HEI, an Edelbrock intake, Edelbrock carb and a pair of Sanderson headers.  Paired with the motor is a 700R4 and Currie 9 inch Ford rear end.  The car runs very well and rides smoothly with Mustang II style front suspension and Pro shock coilovers. Hudson's Rods and Customs in Tennessee completed the new traditional style interior in a Black and White combo with painted to match dash and wool carpeting.  It has Cerullo performance seats with tuck and roll style inserts.  The dash is kept very simple with just 2 Dolphin gauges that have faces that were customized with pinstriping.  What was originally a speaker grill is now utilized as a vent for the Vintage Air system to cool the interior.  This is one cool custom with a lot of very cool features and a great history.  It graced the cover and was featured in the February 2010 issue of Street Rodder magazine. Being a true hot rod from the 60's that was then upgraded with some additional body modification, beautiful paint with graphic and modern mechanical echnology makes for a really unique 40 Ford that always stands out from the rest.  Make this one of a kind 1940 Ford yours for $69,500.00!

About Ford
Ford, founded in 1902, has arguably changed the history of automotive world more than any other car manufacturer by introducing the first people's car Model T in 1908. They had produced more than 15 million cars by the end of the production in 1927, by which T had become obsolete.

Ford launched the first low priced V8 engine powered car in 1932. 1932 V8 was an instant hit with superior handling and performance to many far more expansive cars of the day. No wonder 32 V8 Ford has become such a favourite among hot rodders around the world with 32 Deuce coupe as their icon.

During the war Ford completely shut down civilian vehicle production to dedicate all its resources to the Allied war efforts (1942-45) They used to build B-24 bombers, aircraft engines, jeeps, M-4 tanks, military trucks and Bren-gun carriers and more than 30,000 super-charged Rolls Royce Merlin V-12 engines for Mosquito and Lancaster bombers as well as P-51 Mustang fighters. After the war Ford cars in the USA got bigger and flashier along with their competitors. In the 60's Ford was back in the forefront again when introducing their commercial hit Mustang in 1964. Mustang was so popular the competition had to follow Ford's example and the ponycar phenomenon took over the US. Over the years the ponies grew some muscles until the oil crisis kill finally killed them off.

In the sixties Ford rushed into international motor sports scene with a fury. After unsuccessful Ferrari takeover, when Enzo Ferrari had cut the deal off with Henry Ford II making the latter absolutely boil with fury, Ford turned to Lola in UK to produce a Ferrari beating long distance racer after. The collaboration between Ford and Lola created the mighty Ford GT40 that absolutely beat Ferrari in Le Mans 24 numerous times.

In Europe, Ford introduced some of the most epic race and rally cars of the 60's based on humble family sedans; Cortina GT, Lotus Cortina, Escort Twin Cam, and Escort 1600RS with the iconic Cosworth BDA engines.

Today classic Fords are extremely popular with enthusiasts and a great selection of classic Fords can be found for sale at www.ClassicDigest.com
