Ford Galaxie 428 V8 #s matching 1966

General description : 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 7 Litre With the excitement of the Space Race in peoples minds, Ford decided to appeal to this popularity by naming their full sized auto the Galaxie.  They were introduced in 1959 and although all the full size cars wore the Galaxie name the 500 and 500XL were top of the line for the time.  That however changed in 1965 when the cars were totally redesigned in favor of the muscle car look that was now the icon of the 60s.  Stacked headlights, squared bodies and multiple other changes were incorporated into this new body style.  The LTD was introduced in 65 and in the following year the top of the line for the day was the 500 7 Litre.  What is the 7 Litre you ask?  Well that's a great question!  These were a more rare optioned vehicle that incorporated big block power at a reasonable price.  Check out the following excerpt from 7litre.org.  They have a great breakdown of what exactly a 7 litre is and a wealth of information about these unique classics.  FROM 7litre.org In 1965 Ford Motor Car Division decided to introduce a new engine, using the FE block from the 352, 360 and 390 ci engines. This new powerplant would sport 428 ci, and would be a high torque, streetable big block. It was dubbed the "Thunderbird 7-Litre " and was slotted to appear on some of the 1966 models. Fords executives decided that what better way to introduce the engine than to create a special marque to showcase it. Using a Galaxie 500, with an XL Interior, some added features and some custom badges, the FORD 7-Litre was born. It was available in either Hardtop or Convertible, in either automatic or 4 speed transmission. Marketed as the "Quietest Quick Car, or the Quickest Quiet Car", the car offered a combination of comfort and muscle. It had available options like Power Steering, Air Conditioning, Power Windows, Power Seats Cruise Control and AM/FM Radio. Available one year only as a separate model, it was also available as an option package on the 1967 model. It is interesting to note that a 1966 XL could be ordered with the 428 for several hundred dollars less, making the 7-Litre that much more rare, as you were paying extra for the badges.     So now that you know what a 7 Litre Galaxie is what makes this car so special?  Well not only is it a unique classic but the car has a ton of originality that really separates it from the others still in existence.  It is numbers matching with an original drive train and has the original interior.  Everything has been kept very stock making it a beautiful example of one of these muscle cars.  The 2 door hardtop body is extremely straight and entirely rust free from top to bottom.  It has been repainted but was done in the original color and the fresh paint is excellent.  All of the chrome and stainless is in great condition throughout.  In addition to the 7 Litre badging these special order cars also came with a cast chrome grill.  The car rides on its original style wheels with thin white wall tires.  As mentioned before the 428 motor and C6 automatic transmission are original to the car.  That being said the motor has been made road ready.  Recent repairs include all new push rods, new gaskets, new belts, new filters and fresh tune up to make this 1966 428 look stock but feel fresh.  From front to rear the drivetrain is all original and really needs nothing.  Some of the 7 Litre features include front disc brakes, dual exhaust with dual resonators and a 9 3/8 inch rear end.  The original interior is Blue and in good condition.  It is very clear, especially in places like the interior, how well the car has been treated throughout its life.  There are some areas that aren't perfect but no rips, tears, or issues.  The woodgrain trim along the dash looks great and it has the 7 Litre wood grain steering wheel sitting nicely in front of the driver.  The trunk is carpeted and houses the spare, an additional hubcap and the jack assembly.  The car also comes with the original owners manual.  This is a unique car that you don't see everyday, plus it is being offered up at an excellent price! This is a lot of car for the very reasonable NOW REDUCED DOWN TO $23,500.00!

About Ford
Ford, founded in 1902, has arguably changed the history of automotive world more than any other car manufacturer by introducing the first people's car Model T in 1908. They had produced more than 15 million cars by the end of the production in 1927, by which T had become obsolete.

Ford launched the first low priced V8 engine powered car in 1932. 1932 V8 was an instant hit with superior handling and performance to many far more expansive cars of the day. No wonder 32 V8 Ford has become such a favourite among hot rodders around the world with 32 Deuce coupe as their icon.

During the war Ford completely shut down civilian vehicle production to dedicate all its resources to the Allied war efforts (1942-45) They used to build B-24 bombers, aircraft engines, jeeps, M-4 tanks, military trucks and Bren-gun carriers and more than 30,000 super-charged Rolls Royce Merlin V-12 engines for Mosquito and Lancaster bombers as well as P-51 Mustang fighters. After the war Ford cars in the USA got bigger and flashier along with their competitors. In the 60's Ford was back in the forefront again when introducing their commercial hit Mustang in 1964. Mustang was so popular the competition had to follow Ford's example and the ponycar phenomenon took over the US. Over the years the ponies grew some muscles until the oil crisis kill finally killed them off.

In the sixties Ford rushed into international motor sports scene with a fury. After unsuccessful Ferrari takeover, when Enzo Ferrari had cut the deal off with Henry Ford II making the latter absolutely boil with fury, Ford turned to Lola in UK to produce a Ferrari beating long distance racer after. The collaboration between Ford and Lola created the mighty Ford GT40 that absolutely beat Ferrari in Le Mans 24 numerous times.

In Europe, Ford introduced some of the most epic race and rally cars of the 60's based on humble family sedans; Cortina GT, Lotus Cortina, Escort Twin Cam, and Escort 1600RS with the iconic Cosworth BDA engines.

Today classic Fords are extremely popular with enthusiasts and a great selection of classic Fords can be found for sale at www.ClassicDigest.com
