Ford Thunderbird 390 V8 1965

General description : 1965 Ford Thunderbird Ford’s Thunderbird has gone through a ton of changes through the years. From the small birds of the 1950’s to the Super and Turbo Coupes of the 80s. While they were first designed to compete with the Chevrolet Corvette in the 2-seater roadster market, the 1965 is a much larger, higher optioned big block cruiser than its predecessor. The car is powered by the original 300 horsepower 390 CID V8 engine and is backed by an automatic transmission shifted on the column. Both have been completely rebuilt and gone through by KC Martin in Seattle. The car runs and drives excellent. Power steering and power brakes make a car a pleasure to drive and this T-Bird has them. The options don’t stop there. It has power windows, power locks, remote mirror, original AM radio, new power convertible top and tilt away steering wheel. It has a new radio, battery and carburetor plus reworked hydraulic drums on front and back giving plenty of stopping power. The interior on these Thunderbird’s is a personal favorite. The wrap around back seat, the sweeping speedometer, front bucket seats, chrome trim everywhere you look, and tilt away steering wheel surround you with comfort and style. You feel as if you’ve entered the cockpit of a futuristic vehicle and driving becomes your only mission. As you ease into the bucket seats and secure the seat belts, every switch and button is right where it should be. At the press of a button the automatic convertible top folds into the trunk area, completely hidden from site. This power top works as it should and is in great shape. The white top is a great contrast to the light blue original paint and is accented by the white wall tires. The car just has a beautiful color that really fits the lines of the fourth generation Thunderbird and is in incredible shape for being 53 years-old. The hub caps, trim and chrome pieces are in great shape as well and it sits on $2,500.00 of new wheels and tires. The 1965 Thunderbird also received sequential taillights. Once of the coolest features ever to be put on a vehicle, the taillights flash in a pattern from inside to outside pointing the way to your turn for the person behind you. This Thunderbird is a treasured American classic and this example highlights why. With big block power, almost every option you could want in 1965 and killer good looks, what more could you ask for? This one is being offered at at $24,900.00! This car is being represented for a collector in the Seattle, Washington area.

About Ford
Ford, founded in 1902, has arguably changed the history of automotive world more than any other car manufacturer by introducing the first people's car Model T in 1908. They had produced more than 15 million cars by the end of the production in 1927, by which T had become obsolete.

Ford launched the first low priced V8 engine powered car in 1932. 1932 V8 was an instant hit with superior handling and performance to many far more expansive cars of the day. No wonder 32 V8 Ford has become such a favourite among hot rodders around the world with 32 Deuce coupe as their icon.

During the war Ford completely shut down civilian vehicle production to dedicate all its resources to the Allied war efforts (1942-45) They used to build B-24 bombers, aircraft engines, jeeps, M-4 tanks, military trucks and Bren-gun carriers and more than 30,000 super-charged Rolls Royce Merlin V-12 engines for Mosquito and Lancaster bombers as well as P-51 Mustang fighters. After the war Ford cars in the USA got bigger and flashier along with their competitors. In the 60's Ford was back in the forefront again when introducing their commercial hit Mustang in 1964. Mustang was so popular the competition had to follow Ford's example and the ponycar phenomenon took over the US. Over the years the ponies grew some muscles until the oil crisis kill finally killed them off.

In the sixties Ford rushed into international motor sports scene with a fury. After unsuccessful Ferrari takeover, when Enzo Ferrari had cut the deal off with Henry Ford II making the latter absolutely boil with fury, Ford turned to Lola in UK to produce a Ferrari beating long distance racer after. The collaboration between Ford and Lola created the mighty Ford GT40 that absolutely beat Ferrari in Le Mans 24 numerous times.

In Europe, Ford introduced some of the most epic race and rally cars of the 60's based on humble family sedans; Cortina GT, Lotus Cortina, Escort Twin Cam, and Escort 1600RS with the iconic Cosworth BDA engines.
