Ford Thunderbird 312 V8 1957

General description : 1957 Ford Thunderbird Voted as one of America must beautiful cars “Classics 1957 Thunderbird.” The last year of the two-seater Ford sport roadsters came fully load with luxury amenities such as power steering, power windows, power seat, chrome wire wheels, and let us not forget the removable hard top with the famous side port windows. Who could forget the seen in American Graffiti when the beautiful Suzanne Somers captures the heart of Curt (Richard Dreyfuss) with her smile? The stunning Raven Black paint shines like mirror highlighted by the gleaming chrome. The ’57 sported a restyled appearance starting with smoother look to the front and rear bumpers, and the rear body fins highlighted by a new rear taillight design. No longer need to bend down to a frustrating fight with a license plate to fill the gas. The sleek new bodylines also included a passenger side gas door for easy refueling. She looks as if she just came off the assembly line. The 312 5.1-liter V8 was one of most powerful Ford had introduced 1957 with an impressive 245 HP fed by Holley 4V carburetor. The increased bore and stroke 3.80 x 3.44 inch and compression ratio 9.7.1 gave 332 lbs-ft of torque @3200 rpm! The 2-speed Fordomatic automatic transmission shifts smooth. The upgrade to 12-volt system was a landmark achievement from the former 6 volts seen in ’55 Thunderbird. The exhaust from the original manifolds has that classic dual sound. This is a zero-rust car! The interior also had seen new styling features starting with the dash. A more aggressive instrument cluster with black face and brushed chrome housing. The dash no longer was flat and dull as in the 55-56 models but came in a new padded tuck & roll design. Tooled metal dash inserts flow into the door panels to give a race / cockpit feel. The ’57 has more leg room and easy access thanks to the redesigned powered bench seat. A new modern 15” steering wheel has been added to replace the bulky 18” stock wheel that had made original Thunderbirds so difficult to drive. The stock AM radio has been upgraded to AM/FM/Cassette stereo with electronic tuner. The classic look of radial small white wall tires and new chrome wire rims by True Wire are the final touch to this beautiful “show ready” ’57. It comes with its removable hard top but no soft top. Add it to your collection for $36,500.00! This car is being represented for a collector in the Seattle, Washington area.

About Ford
Ford, founded in 1902, has arguably changed the history of automotive world more than any other car manufacturer by introducing the first people's car Model T in 1908. They had produced more than 15 million cars by the end of the production in 1927, by which T had become obsolete.

Ford launched the first low priced V8 engine powered car in 1932. 1932 V8 was an instant hit with superior handling and performance to many far more expansive cars of the day. No wonder 32 V8 Ford has become such a favourite among hot rodders around the world with 32 Deuce coupe as their icon.

During the war Ford completely shut down civilian vehicle production to dedicate all its resources to the Allied war efforts (1942-45) They used to build B-24 bombers, aircraft engines, jeeps, M-4 tanks, military trucks and Bren-gun carriers and more than 30,000 super-charged Rolls Royce Merlin V-12 engines for Mosquito and Lancaster bombers as well as P-51 Mustang fighters. After the war Ford cars in the USA got bigger and flashier along with their competitors. In the 60's Ford was back in the forefront again when introducing their commercial hit Mustang in 1964. Mustang was so popular the competition had to follow Ford's example and the ponycar phenomenon took over the US. Over the years the ponies grew some muscles until the oil crisis kill finally killed them off.

In the sixties Ford rushed into international motor sports scene with a fury. After unsuccessful Ferrari takeover, when Enzo Ferrari had cut the deal off with Henry Ford II making the latter absolutely boil with fury, Ford turned to Lola in UK to produce a Ferrari beating long distance racer after. The collaboration between Ford and Lola created the mighty Ford GT40 that absolutely beat Ferrari in Le Mans 24 numerous times.

In Europe, Ford introduced some of the most epic race and rally cars of the 60's based on humble family sedans; Cortina GT, Lotus Cortina, Escort Twin Cam, and Escort 1600RS with the iconic Cosworth BDA engines.
