Description : Gateway Classic Cars of Dallas is excited to offer this 1946 Hudson Commodore 8. The Hudson Motor Company formed on the idea of making the American motor car affordable to the general public. The company's strategy to compete in the car market was to build a car for less than $1,000. The public's response was to buy over 4,000 cars in the first year. It might not sound like a lot but the 4,508 units sold was the best first-year production in the history of the automobile industry, a major accomplishment for the newly formed small company.

The Hudson Commodore was introduced in 1941 to moderate success. Following the attacks on Pearl Harbor, the United States entered World War II and production stopped in the Hudson plants to assist in war production. Following the end of the war, Hudson resumed production of Commodores like this in 1946. However, today this Hudson Commodore sits a lot different than when it left the factory in '46. The beneficiary a resto-mod restoration, it's a very capable cruiser thanks to a legendary Chevy power plant and a ton of upgrades.

It starts at the front of the body where a chrome body-width front bumper hangs below a massive chrome grille that sits between two large round headlights. As you make your way down the body you'll pass the Hudson chrome emblems that sit just before the start of the front doors. The two strips of chrome trim that pass over the length of the car, including the suicide rear doors, is separated by a small strip of tan paint that accents the cream body and chrome trim very nicely. At the rear of the car, a chrome rear bumper hangs just below the spacious rear trunk that is flanked on either side by the rear taillights.

Tilt the hood forward on this '46 Hudson and you'll see that gone are the original six cylinders, and in its place is the near bulletproof 350ci Chevy V8. The engine has a vintage look thanks to chrome valve covers. At the top of the engine, a small air filter rests on a 4-barrel carburetor that shoves the air-fuel mixture into an aluminum intake. Spark arrives in the cylinder via Accell super stock spiral core wires that are fed by an Accel HEI supercoil distributor.

At the front of the undercarriage, you'll find the familiar Chevy orange of the 350 shining bright. Bolted to the 350ci V8 is a durable 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission that sends power to a Camaro rear end. As far as suspension goes, the front suspension utilizes a double a-arm style suspension while at the rear a typical leaf spring setup provides a decent ride. Rack and Pinion Steering feels great! Stopping power has been increased thanks to a front disc brake upgrade, while on the rear you'll find drum brakes. In front of those brakes, you'll find bright aluminum wheels with radial tires.

The interior might be the real winner of this build. Open the doors to this Commodore and you'll find a blend of modern convenience with the styling of yesteryear. Between the doors, you'll find a tasteful and luxurious interior that kicks off with classy, alligator leather seats. Front and center, stylish dash frames rebuilt gauges next to a touch screen radio and CD player. In front of the driver, a vintage grant steering wheel spins a small-diameter rim around a silver horn ring. Newer Vintage Air Conditioning!

When it comes to maximizing the number of cars your money buys, you can't go wrong with a purpose-built Hudson resto-mod. Thanks to its thorough restoration, this awesome Hudson is a great driving piece that's fun, historic AND cool. And if you're looking for a stylish classic that commands respect on both the boulevard and the show field, it's just your style! Don't miss your chance to own this one-of-a-kind Commodore.

About Hudson

Buckle up, folks, because we're about to take a thrilling ride through the incredible history of Hudson, the American automaker that roared through the golden age of cars with style, innovation, and a whole lot of spirit!

Born in the USA:
Hudson was as American as apple pie and jazz music. It rolled onto the scene in the early 1900s, right when the automobile industry was hitting its stride. From the start, Hudson was all about making cars for the everyday American, and boy, did they do it with flair!

Step On It!
Hudson was known for its performance. The Terraplane, introduced in the 1930s, became a legend for its speed and reliability. It was the kind of car that could outrun anything on the road and still have room for a family picnic in the back.

Innovators Extraordinaire:
Hudson wasn't content with just being fast; they wanted to be first. They introduced the "step-down" design in the late 1940s, making their cars lower and sleeker for better handling. It was a game-changer in the automotive world and set the bar for everyone else.

Racing Legends:
Hudson wasn't just about making cars for the street; they wanted to dominate the racetrack too. They stormed into NASCAR and became legendary for their racing successes. Drivers like Marshall Teague tore up the track, making Hudson a force to be reckoned with.

The Hudson Hornet:
When we talk about Hudson, we can't forget the Hudson Hornet. It was a true icon of the 1950s, winning countless races and stealing the hearts of car enthusiasts everywhere. That sleek, low-slung design and the unmistakable hornet emblem made it an instant classic.

End of the Road:
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. Hudson merged with Nash-Kelvinator in the 1950s to form American Motors Corporation (AMC). While it marked the end of the Hudson brand, its legacy lives on in the hearts of those who remember the "Fabulous Hudson Hornet" and the roaring spirit of a true American automaker.

So, there you have it, the incredible journey of Hudson, the American underdog that roared through the automotive world with style, innovation, and a whole lot of high-spirited determination. Cheers to Hudson, a name that will forever be etched in the annals of automotive history!
