Jaguar XK120 1953

General description : Launched at the London Motor Show in 1948, the Jaguar XK120 caused sensation at its debut. The sleek and modern look of the XK120 was perfectly matched by the engineering underneath. The heart and the soul of this new car was a 3,442cc six cylinder straight DOHC engine. The legendary XK6 block was born. In its name, the “120” refers to 120mph, impressive top speed for a car at this time. The XK120 was available in three version, first as a Roadster, then also as a Fixed Head Coupe by 1951 and finally, a Convertible in 1953. The first buyer of a XK120 was American Legend Clark Gable. Also the XK120 were very successful in various competitions, both in Europe an America.

This superb 1953 example was sold new in the USA to Captain W C Wade of New-York City, via Max Hoffman, the Jaguar importer for the East Coast. We understand the car had just 3 owners until 2000 when it made its way back to Europe, bought by a property developer, il Signore Gesafin from Milan, Italy. The car has then been restored to a very high standard. In 2004, a very desirable FIVA Identity Card has been issued for this XK120, allowing the car to be entered in some prestigious rallies and events. Signore Gesafin competed in the Mille Miglia, also a number of other prestigious rally events with this car. One of the beloved cars in his impressive collection.

Presented in its original colour combination of Suede Green with Suede Green interior Hide, this matching number Drop Head Coupe is one of the best we’ve ever driven. Coming with a Jaguar Heritage Certificate, it is the opportunity to acquire a very iconic Jaguar, and one of the best design exercises of the 1950’s.

About Jaguar XK120
The Jaguar XK120 is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful sports cars of the 1940s, and indeed one of the most beautiful cars ever made. It was introduced in 1948 and remained in production until 1954.

The XK120 was powered by a 3.4-liter straight-six engine that produced up to 160 horsepower, which was a significant amount of power for a sports car of its time. It was also one of the first cars to feature disc brakes, which gave it impressive stopping power.

But it was the XK120's stunning design that truly set it apart. Its long hood, flowing lines, and sleek curves made it an instant classic, and it was favored by celebrities and racing drivers alike. The XK120 was also available as a roadster or a coupe, further adding to its appeal.

The XK120 was also a successful racing car, winning numerous races and setting several speed records. It was a favorite of racing drivers such as Stirling Moss and Juan Manuel Fangio, and helped to establish Jaguar as a major force in international motorsport.

Overall, the Jaguar XK120 was a true automotive masterpiece, combining beauty, performance, and innovation in a way that few cars have been able to match.
