Mercedes-Benz 190SL 1962

General description : Offered up for sale here is a truly special 190SL. This particular car has been fully restored in house by Hilton & Moss to a concours standard. This 190SL has spent the last few years of its life as our display car to showcase the highest level of restoration possible with no expense spared during the project. Fully disassembled into component form the car was entirely rebuilt with all new bushes and perishables, all parts used were authentic and period correct for the vehicle. With circa £150,000 spent on the restoration the quality is second to none. A full engine, gearbox, differential and suspension rebuild have been carried out with all items blasted and powder coated for long term protection. No stone was left unturned ensuring this car was as good if not better than when it left the factory in 1962.
The body and panel work on the car received an entire restoration and was taken back to bare metal by our in house panel beaters to remove all of the corrosion. In excess of 1000 man hours have been spent perfecting the body alone to ensure every panel is perfectly straight and every gap is 4mm and even. All of the exterior chrome work has been professionally re-chromed with all new seals for the trim and bright work. All fixings and clips have been professionally yellow zinc passivated as per factory specification.
A full interior re-trim has been undertaken with a brand new Boucle weave carpet set fitted. We have used only the finest high quality German leather throughout and a brand new soft top was fitted to top the car off. All of the gauges were disassembled and refurbished along with the switches and buttons. Every fine details of this car has been scrutinized to ensure it is period correct and in keeping with the original specification for the model.
This is a one family owned left hand drive example that was manufactured in 1962 (end of production). Presented in a lovely period correct Blue Metallic (DB387) paintwork with matching hardtop.
Factory supplied as a Roadster with the most desirable and charming optional large wrap round window hardtop improving rearward vision – these are hard to come by and a rare item. Further factory options included a third rear transverse seat that was also trimmed in blue leather alongside the interior. This is a matching numbers vehicle with chassis & engine numbers as they should be. The engine even still retains the original Solex PHH44 carburettors that provide silky smooth acceleration.
Key features of the restoration work-Full bare metal re-spray.-Engine re-build.-Gearbox re-build.-Differential re-build.-Full powder coating of all suspension components.-Re-chroming and anodizing of required components throughout the car.-Full interior re-trim carpets and leather.-New soft top roof.-Replacement of all rubber bushes and seals.
