Porsche 911 / 993 3.6 Targa 1996

General description : 1995 saw the introduction of the Targa version Porsche 993. In contrast to the earlier 911 Targa version, this one did not have detachable panels but a clever glass sliding roof. This meant owners no longer lost space in having to store the panels in the front when removing the roof. Webasto were responsible for the design of the roof, with the 993 convertible used as a base. This made this car the ultimate 993 for those who could not decide between a convertible and a coupé. Carrying an extra 30 kg of weight compared to the coupé did not form a major hindrance when deciding which version you preferred. With no rain gutters, we feel the Targa probably represents the 993 at its most attractive. The large glass roof led Porsche to fit climate control as standard. The Targa also had two-part 17 inch Speedline rims fitted as standard. In 1996 this car was supplied in Germany from new. Over the last 25 years, it has been very well maintained, only clocking up some 135,000 km. The car comes complete with a full service and maintenance history. As you might well expect this 993 Targa is in rude health. The wonderful bodywork has nice and thin original panelwork. The paintwork is in a very good state with only a few light blemishes. The car is has been re-sprayed for cosmetic reasons to a high standard. On inspecting the car’s interior the black cloth upholstery is immediately noticeable. Only very few 993 Targa’s were supplied with cloth upholstery, which when you come to think of it is quite remarkable as with so much glass cloth stays cooler than leather. Furthermore, this 993 has an abundance of accessories. It has Xenon lights, a fine Becker radio, electric windows, electrically adjustable seats, a third brake light and a spare wheel. With a Porsche it is of course all about the mechanics. This 993 has a six-cylinder 3.6-litre boxer engine with Varioram technology. Varioram being a Porsche patented system allowing for a variable-length inlet manifold to be fitted. This provides a lot of torque at low revs, whilst allowing for a lot of power at high revs, in other words always using the ideal manifold length. This system was first seen in the Porsche 964RS before later being used in the 993. The engine develops 285 Ps coupled to a. six-speed gearbox. The 993 Targa can reach 0 to 100km/hr in 5.4 seconds and a top speed of 275 km/hr. Thanks to meticulous maintenance this 993 is fully ready to be enjoyed. Pre 993 Targa generations of the 911 were intended as proper summer cars. The 993 changed all of that, making it an enjoyable all year round car. In summary, you could say the 993 is the perfect partner for all seasons. Gallery Aaldering is Europe’s leading Classic Cars specialist since 1975! About Porsche 911 / 993
The Porsche 993 is the internal designation for the Porsche 911 models produced between 1994 and 1998. It was the successor to the Porsche 964 and was the last of the air-cooled 911s.

One of the most significant changes in the 993 was the introduction of a redesigned body that featured smoother curves and a more aerodynamic shape. The 993 was also the first Porsche 911 to feature an all-aluminum subframe and a multilink rear suspension, which helped to improve handling and ride quality.

The 993 was powered by a range of engines, including a 3.6-liter naturally aspirated flat-six and a 3.6-liter turbocharged flat-six. The top-of-the-line 993 Turbo S was capable of producing 450 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque, making it one of the most powerful production cars of its time.

Today, the Porsche 993 is considered a classic sports car and is highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts. Its combination of classic styling, modern features, and high performance capabilities make it a true icon of the Porsche brand.

As a hobbyist car, the Porsche 993 is popular among collectors and enthusiasts who enjoy working on and restoring classic cars. While the 993 is more complex than some of the earlier air-cooled Porsches, it still offers a relatively simple design and mechanics compared to modern cars. This makes it a good choice for those who are interested in learning about automotive restoration and maintenance.

Overall, the Porsche 993 is an important part of Porsche's history and remains a beloved car among automotive enthusiasts around the world. Its classic design, advanced features, and high performance capabilities make it a true masterpiece of automotive engineering.
