Porsche 928 5.0L V8 FDOHC 32V 1988

General description : Gateway Classic Cars of Dallas is excited to offer this Ultra Clean California Car 1988 Porsche 928 S4. The 928, produced from 1978 to 1995, was originally intended to be Porsche’s flagship model over the 911. The thought was to combine the high performance of a sports car with the refinement of a luxury sedan in a market where regulations were becoming increasingly stringent. Interestingly, the 928 was the only V8 powered coupe ever produced by Porsche, making for a very special car. This numbers matching 928 S4 is powered by a 5.0L V8 that is estimated about 316hp from the factory. This is mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. This engine packs quite a punch and the transmission shifts smoothly. The ride in this grand tourer is sporty enough for the most discerning driver yet sophisticated enough for the pickiest of passengers. The 928 S4 has remarkable handling and cornering capabilities. This sports coupe is in excellent condition thanks to the meticulous maintenance work the current owner has had performed. Some of the work recently performed in spelled out in the maintenance records provided by the owner. This Porsche presents itself beautifully and you can tell that someone went through the car with a fine-tooth comb. The Blue Leather interior and matching blue carpet and dash of this 928 looks impeccable. It is well sorted and extremely clean. The exterior of this Venetian Blue Porsche shows very well. The highly desirable blue on blue color combination works perfectly on this car. The Wheels are a highly desired Factory 18" BBS 2 Piece Sport Design 10 Spoke, valued at $2200 a set. Whether you are looking for a Grand Touring car for road trips, a sporty daily driver, or a fun Sunday ride, you’ve found the Porsche for you! About Porsche 928
he Porsche 928 was a grand tourer sports car introduced by Porsche in 1977. While the car was highly regarded for its performance and handling, it's fair to say that it was not the right car for the time of its launch, at least in terms of market demand.

At the time of the 928's launch, there was a growing demand for smaller, more fuel-efficient cars due to the oil crisis of the 1970s. The 928 was a large, V8-powered sports car that was not particularly fuel-efficient, and its high price tag made it less accessible to many buyers.

Furthermore, the 928 was also a departure from Porsche's traditional sports car design, featuring a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout instead of the classic rear-engine layout of the iconic 911. While the 928 was highly regarded for its performance and handling, some enthusiasts felt that it didn't quite capture the essence of a true Porsche sports car.

Despite these challenges, the Porsche 928 managed to gain a loyal following over the years, thanks to its combination of performance, handling, and luxury features. The car underwent a number of updates and revisions over its production run, and it remained in production until 1995.

Overall, while the Porsche 928 may have been the wrong car for the time of its launch in terms of market demand, it remains an important part of Porsche's history and a classic example of the brand's commitment to pushing the boundaries of automotive design and engineering.
