Gateway Classic Cars of Ft. Lauderdale is proud to offer this 1966 Excalibur SS Roadster. The Excalibur is considered to be a “Neoclassic” styled after the 1928 Mercedes-Benz SSK. A prototype premiered at the New York City Auto Show 1964, on a Studebaker Lark Daytona chassis and a 290 hp Studebaker R2 289 v8 supercharged engine. When Studebaker ceased its operations soon after, that particular engine was no longer available. They were then fitted with GM Chevrolet 327s, which made the Excalibur a strong performer with a top speed of 134 mph, and capable of doing 0-60 in under 6 seconds. Just over 3,200 Excalibur cars were built, all coming from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This particular 1966 Excalibur SS Roadster is a full frame off, nut & bolt restoration, and looks absolutely amazing! Powered by a completely rebuilt factory 327 V8 350hp L79 Corvette engine, this sporty classic has plenty of get up and go. Mated to a World Class T5 transmission, and rack and pinion steering from a Pontiac Sunfire GT, one can’t help but to feel all the enjoyment of real driving. Painted in a stunning Navy Blue and Red with Gold accent, and a matching interior, this 1966 Excalibur SS Roadster is hard to look away from. Looking at the dash you instantly notice the craftmanship and love put into this beauty. Excalibur aus Milwaukee, Wisconsin, war einer der ersten "retro" Autos als Prototyp im Jahr 1964 Das Auto war eingeführt (lose) nach dem 1928 Mercedes-Benz SSK von Brooks Stevens gestylt.
Die Excalibur-Prototyp wurde auf einem Studebaker-Chassis bestückt und mit einem 290-PS-Studebaker 289 V-8. Als Studebaker nachträglich weggefallen seinen Betrieb, endet die Verfügbarkeit seiner 289-V-8 Excalibur ohne ein Kraftwerk noch übrig war. General Motors Freunde Ed Cole und "Bunkie" Knudsen vereinbart, Brooks Stevens mit Chevrolet 327 s in 300-PS Corvette Abstimmung stellen, so dass die leichte Excalibur ein starker Performer.
