Ferrari 512 BB I 1983

Allgemeine Beschreibung : The Bosch fuel injected 512 BBi introduced in 1981 was the last of the Berlinetta Boxer series. The fuel injected motor produced cleaner emissions and offered a better balance of performance and driveability. External differentiators from the 512 BB besides badging include a change to metric sized wheels and the Michelin TRX metric tyre system, small white running lights in the nose (grill), and red rear fog lamps outboard of the exhaust pipes in the rear valance.
Supplied new by Maranello to Mr John Labesse of St Lawrence, Jersey via Melbourne Garage the Ferrari dealer in Channel Islands. With the original order form, Sea link customs shipping note and the sales invoice from Maranello to Melbourne.
Ordered in Rosso Corsa with matt black lower half, VM8500 hide and Cloth 7402 (light grey) with Nero ‘Daytona’ inserts. Owned by Mr Labesse from new until 2014 when he sadly passed away, the cars were put to and then purchased by a well-known car dealer who then sold it to the second owner who lives in Barbados and unfortunately has never driven a single mile in her.
Mr Labesse Son wrote the following statement about the car when it was sold in 2014;"In the early 1980s, my father bought a BB, 44SF from Scotland. On the way, he visited me at boarding school, there was much consternation, as the poster car arrived. He loved the look of the car but was not happy with that particular car as the carbs were difficult to balance as a result he sold in in favour of anew BBi. The car was supplied via Melbourne Garages in Jersey and registered 2-2-83. My father was delighted by the smoothness of the power delivery. The Boxer was used during this period for my father’s pilgrimage to the Monaco Grand Prix, which he had visited without fail from the mid-1960s. He had a flat in Cap Martin and solved garaging of cars in an ingenious way. Upon arrival on race week, he would drive the car to Cavalieri, in Monaco, and ask for the levels to be checked and have the car washed, and pick it up after the Grand Prix, problem solved.
The Boxer shows such low mileage as it was only used for a handful of trips and was superseded by first a Testarossa and then a 512TR”
The car was serviced during its time in Jersey by 3 different garages, most recently Paul Keens who provided a statement when the car was sold in 2014 which can be read below.
When the current owner purchased the car Graypaul Ferrari Nottingham carried out a full Cambelt change and service for the dealer selling the car, meaning although barely any miles have been covered Furlonger will carry out a full engine out cambelt change. It would be good timing at this point to undertake some engine bay detailing as most main dealer don’t carry this out unless requested.
The car is remarkably original, has complete tools, jack roll and spare present. It is all original trim inside and still retains the plastic which covers the sills. The original Jersey number plates are with the car still, but it is now UK registered taxes paid.
Some other features worth mentioning are the smell of the interior, which unquestionably can only be recognised as the smell of the in-period Ferrari trim, the Ferrari Pioneer sound system with graphic equaliser and 5 inc speakers and the sizing and Speedline stickers still present on the wheels.
Overall this car is a superb example of condition and originality and with a small amount of detailing could be one of the best BBi’ s in existence. One owner until 2014 it must be a unique car with only 42 UK right hand drive produced, maybe the only BBi with this provenance.
