Maserati Merak 3000 SS Coupé '75 1975

The Merak was built from 1972 to 1983. Its bodywork was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, as 2 + 2. It was manufactured in three versions, each under the control of one of the three different shareholders of the brand: Citroën, GEPI , and finally De Tomaso. It was the choice of a simpler and cheaper model compared to the Bora that initiated the launch of this car, the two models having the same chassis and the same body. The designation is "tipo AM 122". The first version was born under the Citroën era. The dashboard included most of the SM's components, and will only be produced in 630 copies, the reliability having caused much disillusionment with customers, whose repairers were not trained in the subtleties of hydraulics. It only lived two years, despite its homogeneity and excellent handling. The SS is the second version. It was studied under the Citroen era and presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 75, but the company was sold by Citroën to the company GEPI, the state company intended to collect companies in difficulty, while awaiting a new shareholder, then by De Tomaso. It was still the engineer Alfieri who ensured its development, but he was dismissed when De Tomaso arrived; he will then work at Lamborghini.
