Range Rover Other 1993

Allmän beskrivning : Model History

The Range Rover Classic was a luxury 4x4 built by British car maker Land Rover from 1970 to 1996. It was the first generation of vehicles produced under the Range Rover name. For most of its history, it was known simply as the "Range Rover"; Land Rover coined the term "Range Rover Classic" for the brief period the model was built alongside its P38A successor and applied the name retrospectively to all first-generation Range Rovers.

In its original guise, the Range Rover was more capable off-road than the Land Rover but was much more comfortable, offering a top speed in excess of 100 mph, a towing capacity of 3.5 tons, spacious accommodation for five people and groundbreaking features such as a four-speed, dual-range, permanent four-wheel-drive gearbox and hydraulic disc brakes on all wheels.

Like other Land Rover vehicles, most of the Range Rover's bodywork skin was constructed from lightweight aluminium and hung on a steel frame. The body design changed very little in the first decade and it wasn't until 1981 that the four-door body was introduced. The first major push upmarket was in 1984 which saw the availability of leather trim and automatic transmission, this was followed in the 1985 model year which saw the instrument pod replaced by a more modern one and new door cards with walnut inlays.

The front end of the Range Rover was revamped in 1986. This brought a more pedestrian-friendly plastic grille with horizontal slats, and optional front valance with two fog lights. Mirrors were now mounted on the door pillar rather than the doors, the seat base was lowered and door handles were redesigned. Other changes included the windows, tailgate and bonnet but none of those affected the general design. Bonnet and door hinges gradually evolved out of sight and the fuel filler cap was hidden behind a hinged flap.

Equipment

Heated windscreen, Air conditioning, Anti-lock braking system, Five-spoke alloy wheels, Hella driving lamps, Front fog lamps, Electric windows front and rear, Electrically adjustable door mirrors, Alpine stereo and CD changer, Analog clock, Driver and passenger arm rests, Rear arm rests, Rear mud flaps, Fire extinguisher, Battery cut-off, Spare wheel.

Exterior

This handsome classic Vogue is finished in its original colour combo of Trocadero Red with contrasting grey cloth upholstery. The metallic paintwork is presentable all round but not flawless. There are a few small marks and blemishes to the bodywork, all in line with the age and mileage of the vehicle, making it a truly useable classic. There are no major scuffs or damage to the plastic trim around the car and all the light covers are free from any cracks or moisture. This example comes equipped with twin Hella driving lamps.

Interior

The classic Range Rover cabin presents really well throughout, the seats still looking great in their unmarked Winchester velour. All seats are showing minimal wear and commonly worn items such as the steering wheel and gear selector appear in fine order too. The interior is pleasingly original aside from the addition of an aftermarket Alpine stereo and CD changer hidden in the boot. Despite its period aesthetic the cabin is well equipped with features such as electric windows, electrically adjustable door mirrors, and air conditioning.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

The 3.9-litre V8 starts first turn of the key and idles up to temperature without fuss. Most recently at 118k miles the car received a full service that included spark plugs and a new ignition coil. Out on the road the Range Rover really is a joy to drive, with effortless power delivery and smooth gear changes throughout the rev range.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

The 16-inch alloy wheels look great with their silver outer rims and anthracite painted centres. The alloys appear in good condition showing only light age-related marking on close inspection. The wheels are shod in matching Yokohama tyres.

History File

The Range Rover was sold new through Land Rover Solihull and first registered in January 1993. The history file contains various invoices dating back to 2001, MOT certificates from 1996, along with the dealer-supplied document pack, manuals and booklets. The service booklet contains 16 stamps until 2004 with invoicing thereafter. The most recent inspection was a full service carried out at 118k miles.

Låt oss ta en resa in i Range Rovers värld.
