General description :
Weil die Isetta mit ihren nur 2 Sitzplätzen nur eine Basis Mobilität befriedigen konnte, entstand eine 4-sitzige Version - die sogenannte "Große Isetta". Auch sie verfügte über den Fronteinstieg, hatte aber zusätzlich eine Seitentür hinten rechts. Die ersten Prototypen mussten noch ohne die Seitentür auskommen. Hinten fand sich eine Rückbank für zwei, so dass bis zu vier Insassen in den BMW 600 passten. Das Reserverad wurde derweil in der Fronttür verstaut.
Im Heck saß ein Zweizylinder-Boxermotor, abgeleitet aus dem Motorrad R60. Die Kraftübertragung erfolgte über ein Viergang-Schaltgetriebe. Die Hinterachse war mit knapp normaler Spurbreite als Schräglenker-Achse ausgebildet. Dies verlieh dem Wagen eine akzeptable Straßenlage.
Das Fahrzeug zeichnete sich durch ausgereifte Technik und saubere Verarbeitung aus, wirkte aber in seine Gesamtkonzeption dennoch wenig überzeugend, was vor allem am hohen Preis (3.985 Mark) lag, für den man auch einen VW Käfer bekommen hätte - zudem hatte der BMW 600 nur einhje kleine Ablagemulde hinter dem Rücksitz.
Vorgestellt wurde das viersitzige Rollermobil Ende August 1957, die Serienproduktion begann im Dezember 1957.
Nach Jahresfrist gab es ein erstes leichtes Facelift, erkennbar an den längeren Scheinwerfertöpfen und einer weiter nach hinten reichenden Zierleiste um die hinteren Lufteinlässe. Bis November 1959 wurden 34.318 Fahrzeuge gebaut - dann endete die Produktion zugunsten des neuen BMW 700.
Der hier von uns angebotene BMW 600, befindet sich in einem sehr schönen restaurierten Originalzustand, sowohl technisch als auch optisch ein absoluter "Hingucker", der alle Blicke auf sich zieht. Vo90m BMW 600 (große Isetta) sind nicht mehr viele übrig geblieben, schon gar nicht in einem solch schönen Original-Zustand.
