Ford Super Deluxe 239 Flathead V8 1947

General description : 1947 Ford Super Deluxe - Convertible When WWII occurred it resulted in a section of time where new automobiles were no longer being produced.  Production resumed for the 1946 model what was basically the same as the 1942 model except for the redesigned grill and widened hood.  The most notable change came under the hood where they were now using the 239 motor which was previously reserved for trucks and Mercurys.  The changes in 47 were very subtle but interestingly changes continued throughout the year so a late 1947 and early 1947 actually have some differences.  This 47 Ford Convertible is a great running classic that has been kept mostly all original.  It is painted in a bright Yellow and the paint is in good condition.  It pairs nicely with the Beige top which has been replaced at some point in the past.  It is in good shape and you can tell it is rarely used because of how tight the fit is.  The car looks great with it up and down.  All of the chrome work is in good condition and has a nice shine.  This was back in an era where cars wore a lot of trim all of which is in place on this car and looks good.  The rear skirts give it the perfect vintage touch but are removable should you prefer the look without them.  The car rolls around on the original steel wheels with Ford hubcaps and just wouldn't look right without those wide white wall tires.  Getting this classic rolling is the original style 239 cubic inch flathead V8.  It starts up smoothly and settles into a nice idle.  The car really does run well and doesn't seem to have any mechanical issues.  It is fitted with an Offenhauser intake, Offenhauser heads, dual 2 barrel carbs, a custom air cleaner, and a Hildebrandt oil filter.  Backing up the motor is a manual 3 speed transmission that shifts smoothly from the column.   The interior is in good condition with a split bench seat up front and bench in the rear.  The upholstery is done in Black and is in good shape with no rips or tears.  The dash has been kept all stock with the only modification being an underdash gauge pod for the amp, oil, and temp gauges.  It has the original steering wheel with Ford horn ring.  It also has an the old after market accessory Suicide knob or more formally a Brodie knob to one handed driving easier.  The trunk is carpeted and offers plenty of additional storage space plus room for the spare.  We lifted to the carpet to check the pans and everything is solid.  This is a really nice stock 47 that has a great look and is a fun cruiser.  If you are in the market for a classic convertible definitely give this one a look. About Ford
Ford, founded in 1902, has arguably changed the history of automotive world more than any other car manufacturer by introducing the first people's car Model T in 1908. They had produced more than 15 million cars by the end of the production in 1927, by which T had become obsolete.

Ford launched the first low priced V8 engine powered car in 1932. 1932 V8 was an instant hit with superior handling and performance to many far more expansive cars of the day. No wonder 32 V8 Ford has become such a favourite among hot rodders around the world with 32 Deuce coupe as their icon.

During the war Ford completely shut down civilian vehicle production to dedicate all its resources to the Allied war efforts (1942-45) They used to build B-24 bombers, aircraft engines, jeeps, M-4 tanks, military trucks and Bren-gun carriers and more than 30,000 super-charged Rolls Royce Merlin V-12 engines for Mosquito and Lancaster bombers as well as P-51 Mustang fighters. After the war Ford cars in the USA got bigger and flashier along with their competitors. In the 60's Ford was back in the forefront again when introducing their commercial hit Mustang in 1964. Mustang was so popular the competition had to follow Ford's example and the ponycar phenomenon took over the US. Over the years the ponies grew some muscles until the oil crisis kill finally killed them off.

In the sixties Ford rushed into international motor sports scene with a fury. After unsuccessful Ferrari takeover, when Enzo Ferrari had cut the deal off with Henry Ford II making the latter absolutely boil with fury, Ford turned to Lola in UK to produce a Ferrari beating long distance racer after. The collaboration between Ford and Lola created the mighty Ford GT40 that absolutely beat Ferrari in Le Mans 24 numerous times.

In Europe, Ford introduced some of the most epic race and rally cars of the 60's based on humble family sedans; Cortina GT, Lotus Cortina, Escort Twin Cam, and Escort 1600RS with the iconic Cosworth BDA engines.
