Exterior
This lovely little Elan presents in very tidy condition with a great shine to the yellow paintwork. The car is very original so as you would expect there are some minor paint imperfections but nothing that the detracts from the overall look, the worst being some light cracks in the paint above the front bumper and a few cracks around the doorhandles and aerial. All of the light lenses remain in excellent condition and the plastic trims and rubber seals remain in good condition but with some light perishing. The chrome work remains in generally nice condition with some light patina. Not a show winner but a great usable driver.

Interior
Climbing aboard the Lotus Elan is very nostalgic; it offers a fantastic driving position with low seating and the Colin Chapman steering wheel feels so right. Not being an overly restored car everything feels very original and as expected there is a light patina to the interior with the worst areas of wear being a tear in the leather on the steering wheel, slight splitting to the vinyl on the driver seat, and a hole in the carpet where the drivers right foot rests. The wood on the dashboard remains good with some light cracks and lifting to the varnish in areas. The door cards and centre console are excellent as are the chrome trims around the inside window and dials.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Opening the lightweight fibreglass hood presents a very tidy engine bay with no signs of corrosion and only minimal oxidisation to the engine components. Reading through the history it’s clearly been maintained well over its life, and out on the road it performed extremely well down our local country roads.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The steel wheels are in immaculate condition with only a little patina to the centre locks. They are all shod in a nearly new set of Michelin tyres and after inspection the brakes were said to be in fine working condition.
History File
The Elan comes with a file full of invoices and old MOTs dating back to the mid-1970s. Recent work includes a full engine tune-up, rebuilt carbs and replacement spark plugs. The current owner has had the car for four years and there are only 3 previous keepers.
The Lotus Elan is a British sports car that was produced by Lotus Cars from 1962 to 1973. It was designed by Lotus founder Colin Chapman and is considered a classic example of British sports car design.
The Elan was powered by a 1.6-liter inline-four engine that produced up to 118 horsepower. It also featured advanced suspension and braking systems, with four-wheel independent suspension and disc brakes on all four wheels.
The Lotus Elan was known for its exceptional handling and performance, with a top speed of up to 120 mph and acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in as little as 7 seconds. Its lightweight fiberglass body and advanced suspension system made it a popular choice among sports car enthusiasts of the time.
