“Call it a status symbol, prestige car or what you will, the Ferrari has that indefinable quality which makes it one of the most desirable of all motor cars. Naturally it is costly, but one cannot obtain the kind of workmanship that goes into a Ferrari without parting with a good deal of folded money. For several years the marque was un-ashamedly a sports car, in keeping with Marranellos racing background. Gradually, however, there developed a demand for a more luxurious version, which, whilst retaining the wonderful performance for which the ‘’prancing horse’’ machines are famed, it would be much more refined. Italy’s finest coach-builders produced many beautiful machines, but they were mainly known for their true ‘gran turismo’. With the introduction of Ferrari which has all the qualities of the great ‘’prestige’’ vehicles of the past allied to modern advanced automobiles’’

With the whopping new car price of over £9500 the newly arrived Ferrari 250GTE was once only £1000 less than the 250GTO, but was nearly double its British equivalent of the day, the Aston Martin DB4. With huge demand worldwide for the newly arrived 2+2 Prancing Horse, Ferrari had cracked it. Production numbers outstripped the others models available. The new car, with its rear deep wells, was comfortable to fit four adults and had room for the kitchen sink in the boot, which quickly became an essential feature for the modern gentleman.

Today the Ferrari 250GTE, like with all Ferrari’s from the 50’s to the 70’s have seen tremendous appreciation and this car represents an opportunity to join the elite.

Our car is finished in classic Rosso Corsa coachwork with light Grey leather, gleaming bright chrome work and it is still fitted with the extremely valuable and sought after Marchal headlights, inserted into the grille mouth. The car sits on four beautiful Borrani chrome and alloy wire wheels and the stance of the car is extremely attractive

Much of the interior has been redone over the years. The console, front and rear seat, rear shelf, dash, and door panel leather are all in very good condition with no damage or major wear marks. The headliner looks to be original and is in excellent condition with no discolouration or sagging. The paintwork is gleaming and bright with the panel gaps consistent throughout & the door fit being especially nice.

Currently the car needs nothing mechanically, the V8 replacement engine starts easily and shows no smoke when hot or cold. The carburettors are nicely tuned and it is a pleasure to drive.

Fitted with a powerful and reliable V8 engine coupled to a 5 speed manual gearbox, the new owner will be able to enjoy this iconic car all year long.

Den första Ferrari väg bil var de 125 S introducerades 1947 och drivs av en 1,5 L V12 motor, eller hur?
Tja det är inte riktigt så enkelt, Ferrari faktiskt producerar e Tipo 815, 1940 Tipo 815 ritades av ex-Alfa Romeo ingenjörer Alberto Massimino och Vittorio Bellentani och Enrico Nardi enligt Enzo sällskap men juridiska frågor med det tidigare intresse Alfa Romeo hindrade Ferrari från att lansera Ferrari marque vid den punkten.

Enzo fick fram en rad fina väg bilar på 50-talet och 60-talet, men de var bara för att finansiera sin passion racing, väder GT / Sportbil eller Grand Prix. 50-talet såg födelsen av Ferraris mest minnesvärda bilar, 250 GTB (tour de France) 250 Testa Rossa, 250 GT SWB bara för att nämna några.

Under ytspänningen växte dock. I November 1961 erfaren försäljningschef Girolamo Gardini gjorde ett ultimatum till Enzo: om spänningar fortsatte skulle han lämna företaget. Som ett resultat var Gardini avsattes, liksom Scuderia Ferrari manager Romolo Tavoni, överingenjör Carlo Chiti, experimentell sportbil utveckling chief Giotto Bizzarrini, och ett antal andra, som stod vid dem.
Utan Chiti och Bizzarrini utvecklingen av vad som skulle bli den mest kvintessensen Ferrari och idag världens dyraste bil, 250 GTO, var vid en svängpunkt. 250 GTO projekt räddades av en ung ingenjör Mauro Forghieri och lång tid racing bodyman Sergio Scaglietti som klev in och tog över programmet med kända resultat.

Förutom 250 GTO, Ferrari launced sådana mästerverk som 250 LM, 250P, 275 GTB, 365 GTB / 4 "Daytona" under 60-talet
I slutet av 60-talet Ferraris prototyper framgång fick ett abrupt stopp av en ny konkurrent, GT40. Ford vände sig till Lola för att producera en Ferrari slog långdistans racer efter Enzo hade klippt affären av med Henry Ford II gör det senare absolut koka av vrede. Samarbetet mellan Ford och Lola skapade den mäktiga Ford GT40 som gav Ferrari några tunga hits i Le Mans 24 framöver.
I slutet av 60-talet FIAT köpte 50% av bolaget, med start en utveckling som har lett till en ny massproducerade era av Ferraris.
