Since the 356 B models were already in the starting blocks, it was difficult for the last 356 A to be sold. So these vehicles were modified and tuned and sold as “outlaw” in its day. The same fate happened to the 356 A offered here and resulted in a radical conversion by the founder and Porsche specialist Hank Gottfredson, owner of GT Racing in Colorado Springs, as early as the 1970s. The engine was contributed by the legendary engine builder Duane Spencer, author of the “Porsche 356 Performance Manual”. It is a modified 1,720 cc engine with Weber double carburetors, switched by a racing gearbox cluster (BBAA, as per GS Carrera Speedster and 550 Spyder specification) The red tachometer only starts at 7000 rpm. Other extras have been installed such as 993 oil coolers and steel braided lines for oil and brake lines. Front + rear disc brakes, a double master brake cylinder, racing tank with electrical six-volt fuel pump. Next is an oil and fuel pressure gauge and a fuel pressure regulator addition in the engine compartment.
